Ace Filmmaker Guneet Monga Joins Team Of India's Oscar Entry 'Jallikattu' As Executive Producer
Guneet Monga has come on board Jallikattu, India's official entry for Oscars 2021, as an executive producer. She will one of those who strategise the campaign for Oscars.
Last year, Guneet Monga won an Oscar for her short film, Period. End of Sentence. Now the filmmaker who has backed movies like Gangs of Wasseypur series, Masaan and The Lunchbox among others has come on board Jallikattu, India's official entry for Oscars 2021, as an executive producer.
She will one of those who will strategise for the Oscar campaign.

Monga, who is also the producer of Suriya-starrer Soorarai Pottru, says she is thrilled to join the team.

Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, the Malayalam feature follows a tribe of men coming together to stop a bull that has run amok in their village. The movie stars Antony Varghese, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad and Santhy Balachandran. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in Sep 2019 where it received widespread critical acclaim.

The film was chosen by the Film Federation of India from 27 entries that included Hindi, Odiya, Marathi and other language movies. Others films in consideration included The Disciple, Shikara, Chhapaak, Bhonsle, Chhalaang, Kaamyaab, Chintu Ka Birthday, Bittersweet, Gulabo Sitabo, Bulbbul, The Sky is Pink, Serious Men, and Gunjan Saxena among others, reportedly.

The movie, which is based on the short story of Maoist by Hareesh, follows a bull that escapes from a slaughterhouse in a hilly remote village and the entire village men gathering to hunt down the animal.
