After Directly Helping Migrant Workers, Sonu Sood Now Wants To Spread Human Rights Awareness

The problem of hunger in India is big but what's even bigger is that lack of awareness of right of food and shelter. Most people, especially in the rural areas are still not aware of their rights.

To let people know of their rights and open their eyes, Sonu Sood, who helped thousands of small-scale migrant and daily-wage workers, has lent his voice to the podcasts United for Human Rights.

Taking a stand to spread awareness on the human right Food and Shelter for All, Sonu Sood said, "Food and Shelter is the right that everyone needs and deserves to get. Imagine all these poor guys who are on the roads - they're not getting food with them for two days, three days. What we realised is that government distributed food reaches a lot of places, but we also had at least 30 to 40% people who still get deprived of all their needs and their rights, so the question is how to make that awareness?"

"Yes, the law and rights to food and shelter exist, but how many people are really enjoying it ¨C in the heartland there¡¯s a lot of classism, there are a lot of people not aware of their rights and, like what this Born Free and Equal podcast is doing," he said.

"I go to all these small places - half of the people are still deprived, so we need more education programs where we can make them aware. The reach can only be there when people from that particular core family or that core society can come forward and be the leaders to make sure that the government supplies reach to the nucleus of every village," Sood added.

Meanwhile, Sonu Sood who is hailed as a real-life hero, received an adorable gift from Shilpa Shetty¡¯s son Viaan. Impressed by Sood's work, Viaan made a project that was a tribute to the star.
