Ajeeb Daastaans: Konkona Sen Sharma & Aditi Rao Hydari's 'Geeli Pucchi' Melts People's Hearts

Comprising of a stellar cast starring Jaideep Ahlawat, Konkona Sen Sharma, Shefali Shah and Manav Kaul, Abhishek Banerjee, Nushrat Bharucha and Fatima Sana Sheikh among others, Ajeeb Daastaans comprises of four short stories by four directors -- Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghaywan and Kayoze Irani -- explores complex themes like sexuality, homophobia, casteism, love and betrayal.

Among the four short stories, the one that stood out and has tug at the heartstrings of the audience is Konkona and Aditi's Geeli Pucchi.

Geeli Pucchi in Ajeeb Dastans illuminates brahminical heteropatriarchy like nothing else. It allows you to walk in a dalit lesbian character's shoes, @ghaywan & @konkonas are brilliant here. The film also shows the muffling of a brahmin woman with acuity. On Netflix. Watch.

Geeli pucchi (2021)

Neeraj's short from the Ajeeb daastaans (2021) is a perfect ethical drama that mixes sexuality and caste. It answers the question of which trumps over the other, sexuality or your caste.
But, I do have my reservation about the movie's politics.

Only part I liked about Neeraj Ghaywan¡¯s ¡°Geeli Pucchi¡¯ short is that the Mandal girl tells Sharma girl that with her casteist, polluted mindset she doesn¡¯t belong in the modern spaces and should go back to doing the outdated, traditional role expected of brahmin women.

Loved the different stories in #AjeebDaastaans but I have to say my favourite was Geeli Pucchi directed by @ghaywan, @konkonas and @aditiraohydari are amazing. Also loved Ankahi directed by Kayoze Irani, @ShefaliShah_ is just wonderful. ??
