Kushal Punjabi had reportedly committed suicide. His body was found hanging at his Mumbai residence, reports claimed. What left people even more startled was the fact that he had uploaded a picture of his son hours before he took the decision to end his life.
Why did Kushal Punjabi commit suicide? He was apparently going through financial problems, his close friend and TV actor Chetan Hansraj revealed.
"Yes, it is suicide. He was going through a separation from his wife and he was also down with sickness. I still can't believe that Kushal is no more with us," he told TOI.
"I spoke to him on the Christmas eve, he was sounding low but not to the point that he will do something like this. He was a bit stress about his work and some financial support and all that. But I think everyone in this industry has some stress-related work," Chetan told Free Press Journal.
Before taking the drastic step, it is said that Kushal also changed his Twitter bio to "Actor Writer Director Biker Adventurer. Currently transiting planet Earth".
According to ANI, the police found a suicide note at his apartment.
Everyone including the Bollywood stars are in a state of shock. Akshay Kumar, who has worked with him 2003 romance musical Andaaz, said, "I have worked with him. I think everyone has their own struggle. Some people are lucky enough to understand it, and some don't. We don't know why people do such things. There must be some reason to it, but all I can say is 'be brave enough and face the problem as it's a beautiful life, don't just let it go like that'."
Akshay further emphasised on the importance of conversation about depression and anxiety and expressed his desire to do a film on such a subject. "I know it's very easy for me to say but I think we should fight it out and just work on it and not just try to take our own lives. If I'd ever get a chance I'd love to do a movie on depression as it's one of the biggest issues India is going through right now," the actor said.
Farhan Akhtar also took to Twitter to express grief as he remembered working with him in Lakshay.
"Shocked and saddened to hear of Kushal Punjabi taking his own life. Have fond memories of working with him on Lakshya and witnessing him kick everyone¡¯s behind at boot camp. You will be missed brother. Condolences to the family," he wrote.

I have known Kushal Punjabi since he was a kid. He was always an all rounder, a rare mix of talent and hard work. His commitment and dedication were an inspiration to everyone around him. I¡¯m very sad that he¡¯s gone. I¡¯m even sadder that he gave up. RIP.

Condoling his death, actress Hazel Keech, wrote, "You'll always be remembered as a kind and smiling soul. Rest in Peace Chimpoo... I'm so sorry that we failed you...I'm so sorry you didn't feel that we were there for you...We've failed you as friends, family...as a community of actors, as humans."
In a throwback interview, Kushal had said that he felt his potential was untapped.
"I wanted to dance, perform, be on stage and act in TV shows, films and web series. It was never about ki Mujhe hero banna hai ya superstar banna hai. I just wanted to perform. My potential is still untapped. However, I have no regrets. Every step of the way, I have seen rejections and acceptance. Sometimes, I got a show that didn¡¯t eventually work out, and at times, I declined an offer because I wanted to go on a bikers¡¯ trip. So, meri bhi stupidity hai, because I am also not someone who would only think of my acting career," Pinkvilla quoted him as saying.
Kushal Punjabi famously appeared in DJ Aqeel's remix of Keh Doon Tumhe in the '90s. He was a part of many TV shows including Love Marriage, CID, Dekho Magar Pyaar Se, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, Kasam Se, Sssshhh... Phir Koi Hai, Fear Factor and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7 among others,
