Hyderabad Police Book Actor Siddharth For His Sexist Comment Against Saina Nehwal
Hyderabad Police has booked cases against actor Siddharth after he made a sexist tweet against Saina Nehwal. Meanwhile, the Tamil actor has also issued an apology in the same regard.
While actor Siddharth has issued an apology to badminton player Saina Nehwal, he has been booked by Hyderabad Police in the same regard.
Two cases have been registered against him -- for publishing obscene content on a digital platform ( as per Section 67 of The Information Technology Act) and for using words that intent to insult the modesty of a woman ( as per Section 509 of the IPC).
The cases have been lodged after a woman filed a complaint against the actor. The complaint was reportedly filed by Prerna Thiruvaipati, who is the vice president of Hindu Jana Shakti from Kadapa, reports The Hindu.
Meanwhile, Saina Nehwal had stated that she was happy with Siddharth's apology. "See, it is about women; he shouldn¡¯t target a woman like that, but it¡¯s okay. I am not bothered about it, I am happy in my space, and god to bless him."
Siddharth, who had tweeted, "Subtle cock champion of the world... Thank God we have protectors of India. Shame on you #Rihanna," wrote in his apology, ¡°Dear Saina, I want to apologize to you for the rude joke that I wrote as a response to a tweet of yours a few days ago. I may disagree with you on many things, but even my disappointment or anger when I read your tweet cannot justify my tone and words. I know I have more grace in me than that. As for the joke¡ If a joke needs to be explained, then it wasn¡¯t a very good joke, to begin with. Sorry about a joke that didn¡¯t land.¡±
"I, however, must insist my wordplay and humour had none of the malicious intent that so many people from all quarters have attributed to it. I am a staunch feminist ally, and I assure you there was no gender implied in my tweet and certainly no intent to attack you as a woman. I hope we can put this behind us and that you will accept my letter. You will always be my Champion. Honestly, Siddharth."
