Comedian Munawar Faruqui's Shows In Raipur Cancelled After Threats From Hindutva Groups
Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui had to cancel two of his upcoming shows in Raipur after Hindutva groups threatened the organisers. Bajrang Dal sent a letter to the police claiming that they would stop in their way if the police didnt stop the shows. Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders also met senior police officials on Monday to demand that the shows be cancelled.
Stand-up comedian Munawar Faruqui had to cancel two of his upcoming shows in Chhattisgarh's Raipur after Hindutva groups threatened the organisers.
A report in Scroll claims that organisers had to write to the police, urging them to stop the shows.
Faruqui was scheduled to perform in Raipur on 14 November, but Bajrang Dal sent a letter to the police, claiming that they would stop in their way if the police didn't stop the shows.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Santosh Chaudhary spoke to Hindustan Times and said,
"Faruqui had mocked our gods in the past, and such anti-Hindu people should not be permitted in the capital. If the administration permits, it would be their responsibility as we will be stopping the shows in our way."
A similar incident happened last month when the comedian cancelled his three shows in Mumbai because of threats from various right-wing groups.

These groups also ran an organised social media campaign under the hashtag #GoBackMunawar to target him.
Alleging that his shows are 'anti-Hindu, and the letter sent by Bajrang Dal to police alleges that Faruqui mocks Hindu gods Ram, Sita and Shiva, and the car sevaks who died in the Godhra train fire in Gujarat in 2002.
