Deepak Tijori Claims Director Duo Abbas-Mustan Stole His Idea For Shah Rukh Khan's Baazigar
Deepak Tijori says director duo Abbas-Mustan stole his idea for Baazigar.
Shah Rukh Khan¡¯s 'Baazigar' was one of his career defining movies which was released in 1993. The crime thriller was helmed by director duo Abbas¨CMustan. But, did you know that Deepak Tijori would have actually played the role instead?
Well, in a recent interview, actor-turned-director Deepak Tijori has revealed that it was his idea to remake 'A Kiss Before Dying' into the popular Bollywood film 'Baazigar.'
Tijori said that he had gone to the filmmaker duo Abbas-Mustan with the idea, but they went behind him and roped in Shah Rukh Khan for the anti-hero role. While he mentioned that he regrets not doing the movie, he thinks backing out from it was the right thing to do.
During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Deepak Tijori stated, "I had watched A Kiss Before Dying and I had narrated the whole script to Abbas-Mustan. They loved it. At that time I was doing good for myself and I said I want to play this bad guy because A Kiss Before Dying was about Matt Dillon being a bad guy."
After Abbas-Mustan allegedly stole his idea, Tijori approached film producer Pahlaj Nihalani and made him watch A Kiss Before Dying.
Nihalani liked the film and immediately agreed to remake it in Hindi.
¡°He called me and said, ¡®banaate hain ye film (let¡¯s make this film)¡¯ and asked about the lead actress. I said we will have Pooja doing the double role, she will play both sisters. He had his own directors, but I said, ¡®no I have Abbas-Mustan on board," Tijori further said in the interview.
Baazigar had Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Shilpa Shetty in the lead roles.
