Deepika Padukone Faced Racism In Hollywood, Was Told 'You Speak English Really Well' By An Actor

Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone who was last seen in 2021¡¯s Gehraiyaan has made some shocking revelations about Hollywood.

Deepika made her Hollywood debut with xXx: Return of Xander Cage in 2017 and ever since then she hasn¡¯t taken up any more projects in the West.

Deepika played the character of Serena Unger in the action thriller which also starred Vin Diesel, Nina Dobrev, Kris Wu, and Roby Rose in pivotal roles. The Padmaavat actress has now bared her heart out about what she feels about Hollywood.

Not a global actor but a global brand ambassador

Even after choosing to skip global acting projects, Deepika has made her mark in the global market by being the ambassador for brands like Levi¡¯s, Adidas, Louis Vuitton, and now, Cartier. Recently she was also appointed as one of the jury members of the Cannes Film Festival. For the unversed, Deepika is currently at the Paris fashion week and has become the only Indian celebrity to represent the country there.

Now in an interview with a magazine, Deepika has opened up on leaving out global films as her negative experience went hovering during her visits to the US.

Talking to the Business of Fashion, Deepika expressed, "You are the scientist. You are the computer geek. You are the taxi driver. You are the therapist. You are the owner of a convenience store. I¡¯ve had my fans ask me why I¡¯ve not done more [global] movies. But that¡¯s not what I¡¯m settling for, because I am ¡ª and we are ¡ª so much more than that. It would upset me every time I went to the US. Some of the things that are said and some of the things that are done just [make it] so obvious that people don¡¯t know the world outside of the world that they live in.¡±

Deepika recalled an upsetting encounter with a Hollywood actor¡¯s racist statement

She said, ¡°I know this actor¡­ I met him at this Vanity Fair party, and he said ¡®Hey by the way, you speak English really well.¡¯ I didn¡¯t even realise what that meant. And when I came back I said, ¡®What do you mean you speak English really well?¡¯ Did he have this notion that we don¡¯t speak English?¡¯¡±

What¡¯s Deepika up to on the work front?

Deepika has numerous projects lined up for her. She will be next seen in the Shah Rukh Khan starrer Pathaan along with her Desi Boyz co-star John Abraham. She also has Fighter with Hrithik Roshan and the Nag Ashwin film Project K with Telugu star Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan in her kitty. She will also be reuniting with Amitabh Bachchan for the Hindi remake of the Hollywood film The Intern.
