Premarital Sex Or Pregnancy Is A Personal Choice, Says Dia Mirza After Alia Bhatt Gets Trolled
After Alia Bhatt got trolled for her pregnancy, Dia Mirza says that premarital sex and pregnancy are personal choices. She adds many people have regressive thoughts about it.
Sexism, hatred, misogyny and negativity are always unwarranted, but Alia Bhatt had to bear the brunt of the same as trolls just couldn't stop mocking the most beautiful phase of her life - her pregnancy. Alia Bhatt was scrutinized for her decision with people saying "kuch jyada jaldi ni ho gaya" and some others even considering her career was on the downfall already.
Dia Mirza had faced something similar when she announced her pregnancy last year.
Dia Mirza had tied the knot with Vaibhav Rekhi in February 2021. In April, she announced that she was pregnant. She faced the ire too. She was questioned about the time of her marriage and pregnancy. In May 2021, she welcomed her first child Avyaan.
Responding to a troll, she said, "We didn't marry because we were having a baby together. We were already marrying as we wanted to spend our lives together. We discovered we were going to have a baby while we were planning our wedding. So this marriage is not the result of pregnancy."
She added, "We didn't announce the pregnancy until we knew its safe (medical reasons). This is the happiest news of my life. I've waited for many many years for this to happen. No way I would hide it for any reason other than medical."
Talking about the same, Dia Mirza recently told ETimes that premarital sex and pregnancy is a personal choice.
"I feel when it comes to personal choice and the power of personal choice, it can only be celebrated by those who ensure they make personal choices, not threatened, not afraid of making the choice that you need to as an individual."
She added, "And while there may be many people with regressive thoughts on things like premarital sex or premarital pregnancy or any other things for that matter, there are enough people who recognise the fact that it is a personal choice, that people have the right to do if they choose to. I don¡¯t think we are as progressive as we imagine or as we consider ourselves to be."
