Shershaah's success proves that real-life heroism always strikes a chord with the sentiments of people. Apart from praising his bravery and heroism, people have admired Vikram and Dimple's love story.
Another interesting detail will give you a close look at Vikram Batra and Dimple Cheema's eternal love story.
According to the writer of Shershaah, when he started researching captain Vikram's life, he said there had to be something more to his story than focusing on factual details and his bravery.
Captain Batra, who hailed from a small hill town of Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, fell in love with Dimple Cheema, his MA English coursemate at Chandigarh's Panjab University.
Sandeep Srivastava, who has earlier been associated with projects like "Ab Tak Chhappan," Kabir Khan's "Kabul Express" and "New York" and Disney+ Hotstar series "Aarya" as a writer, revealed that he wanted to delve deeper into their love story.
Srivastava wanted to show Cheema's story, who too contributed to Captain Batra's journey.
In an interview with News18, writer Sandeep confessed that he learned that Dimple knew Captain Batra during his research for 4 years, but they spent only 40 days together.
He was quoted as saying,
¡°I think that we have captured the essence of those 40 days, which means a lot to the wonderful lady whom I have a lot of respect.¡±
Just a few days ago, Sandeep spoke to PTI and shared:
"I realized I had an opportunity to not just talk about his war heroics but also the chance to write this exemplary love story which is rare to find."
Since Dimple has always maintained a stand as an "extremely private person," she even refused to meet the writer but obliged him over a telephone call. As the conversation began, the brief call turned into an hour-long conversation, and she even met him.
He added, "She realized that I genuinely wanted to know what happened. It was an extremely emotional experience. My respect for her rose many notches up when we started interacting."
Writer Sandeep Srivastava added that during their meeting, he was touched by Dimple's perspective on her relationship with Vikram.
"She told me, 'People keep telling me that this is a huge sacrifice that I have made. But, honestly, I don't look at it as a sacrifice. This is a choice. Vikram was everything to me. That chapter could have been with Vikram, it was with him, and that's it. I am fine with it. There is no sacrifice'," he said, recalling Cheema's words.
Directed by Vishnu Varadhan, Shershaah was backed by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions and Kaash Entertainment.
The movie was released on August 12 on Amazon Prime Video and won hearts for doing dull justice in piercing Captain Vikram Batra's life with the utmost sensitivity.
