If reports are to be believed, this Fawad and Mahira starrer will be the first Pakistani film in over a decade to screen in India.
¡°It will be played in Punjab and a few theatres in Delhi in INOX where there are Punjabi speaking people,¡± Rajender Singh Jyala, chief programming officer, INOX Leisure Ltd, told PTI. For the unversed, The Legend of Maula Jatt has become Pakistan¡¯s highest-grossing film of all time earning close to $10 million.
Interestingly, multiplex chain PVR Cinemas shared a release announcement on its official Instagram page but deleted it soon after. They captioned it, ¡°Presenting the official poster of #TheLegendofMaulaJatt! Coming to PVR this Friday¡±. The action drama was initially released in Pakistan on October 13.
Confirming the release date to be December 30th, a source called it the ¡®last major release to hit Indian screens¡¯.
A source quoted Bollywood Hungama, ¡°It was released in Pakistan and elsewhere in the world on October 13, 2022, and it has crossed the Rs. 200 crore mark at the worldwide box office. It is the first film from Pakistan to achieve this feat. Hence, a lot of people in India, especially the fans of the lead cast, are looking forward to seeing the film, and it can have healthy box office numbers.¡±
¡°Zee Studios is mainly looking at releasing The Legend Of Maula Jatt in Delhi-NCR and Punjab. This is because it¡¯s a Punjabi film and will have the maximum chance in the Northern belt. A clear decision on this aspect will be taken later on,¡± their source added.
Another well-placed source from Zee told Firstpost, ¡°Yes it¡¯s true. There is a genuine demand for the film. It has broken records wherever released. We want to bring this phenomenal film to India and we are doing just that. But we wanted to avoid a direct clash with Rohit Shetty¡¯s Cirkus. Not that there is any comparison of The Legend Of Maula Jatt with Cirkus. They are completely different films. But we had a clear Friday on December 30. We wanted the year to end with something special.¡±
