She has previously won the Best Actress National award for Queen and Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and Best Supporting Actress award for role in Fashion.

Apart from Kangana, Manoj Bajpayee also won the award for his impeccable performance in Bhonsle.
Tamil actor Dhanush received the Best Actor Award for his role in Asuran.

Apart from this, Priyadarshan's Malayalam film Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham was declared the best feature film and Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan was named best director for Hindi film Bahattar Hoorain by the National Film Award jury.
Sushant Singh Raput-starrer "Chhichhore" was adjudged the best Hindi film.
