Movie sequels are generally disappointing, right? For instance, Sanjay Dutt's Vaastav is considered as a classic film. However, Hathyar, which was its sequel was equally disappointing. Bheja Fry was an epic watch, but Bheja Fry 2 wasn't so good.
However, there are always some exceptions. From Drishyam 2 to Tanu Weds Manu Returns, here are some of the best second helpings in movies.
1. Tanu Weds Manu Returns
Kangana Ranaut's career took a flight after Tanu Weds Manu, and also made Anand L Rai a recognised name in the industry. While the original film was quite successful, the sequence performed even better at the box office. Ranaut played double roles while R Madhavan and Deepak Dobriyal returned in their respective characters for a film that became one of the highest grossers of 2015.
2. Drishyam 2
People were skeptical about how the plot of the movie will be taken forward with the second instalment, but to they pleasently surprised with Jeethu Joseph's intelligent script that had lots of surprises and twists. So much so, that they are already waiting for the third chapter and cannot stop speculating about the plot of Drishyam 3.
3. Lage Raho Munna Bhai
From Gandhigiri, to Munna-Circuit¡¯s chemistry; from romance to witty one liners, Munna Bhai will forever be etched in our hearts. The sequel to the film that introduced Jaadu Ki Jhappi won the hearts of the audiences once again and won four National Awards. Not only that, it also became the first Hindi film to be shown at the United Nations.
4. The Dark Knight
For Heath Ledger fans, this film will always be special. After Batman Begins that teased the possibility of the superhero's greatest nemesis showing up in a sequel had already piqued the excitement of fans, and Heath Ledger's great performance won not only the hearts of the audiences but also critics. He won an Oscar for his iconic character.
5. Gangs Of Wasseypur 2
While the first part had set the expectations too high, the second is often hailed as better than the original. The Anurag Kashyap film that featured in the Guardian's list of 100 best movies of 21st century, was originally shot as a single film but was released in two parts in 2012.
6. Pheri Hera Pheri
Baburao¡¯s comebacks to Sunil Shetty¡¯s flirty skills, the movie and its sequel left audiences rolling on the floor laughing. Phir Hera Pheri wasn't better than the original, but it is still one of the best comedy films of all times. The third instalment is due for release and it is said that the original cast including Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal will reprise their respective roles.
7. Baahubali: The Conclusion
The film that finally answered 'Kattappa ne Baahubali ko kyu mara?' after years of wait was more successful than the original. In just three days of release, it garnered over Rs 540 crores across the world. The movie shattered plenty of records and kept making headlines for months after release. It was also chosen as the opening film at the 39th Moscow International Film Festival. Indeed, Baahubali became a global phenomenon.
8. Avengers Endgame
This rare three hour movie broke the record of all the 21 MCU films including Avengers: Infinity War. For most of the fans, it is one of the best comic book film ever made so far. People waited for a year to see what fate awaits for Avengers, and when the film, the biggest one of the year, hit the theatre screens, they witnessed an experience of a lifetime.

The sequel to the film that won Best Picture award follows the story of the first movie with a narrative moving between two entirely different time periods. It is hailed as Al Pacino's finest performance and also of the greatest acting peieces of all times. The Godfather Part II both won the Oscar for Best picture years ago. The Golmaal series is one of the most successful franchise in Bollywyood. When Rohit Shetty had made the original film Golmaal Fun Unlimited, he had no plans of making a sequel. As the box office graph kept soaring with every movie, the franchise kept growing too. It is said that the part 4 is in the works too.
11. Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2
The first part featuring all newcomers was a sleeper hit. When the movie had released, there wasn't much buzz around it, but gradually Kartik Aaryan's monologue and Liquid's rant gained cult status. Soon, a part two was announced and when it released, it was a blockbuster hit. Kartik Aaryan is now a rising star, all because of the success of the two films.
