Iconic Director-Actor Duo Who Gave Several Hits, Govinda And David Dhawan Have Patched Up!
Last seen at Ramesh Taurani's Diwali party, the iconic director and actor duo who have given Bollywood several hits, Govinda and David Dhawan have patched up after years of publicised fight.
From Shah Rukh Khan-Yash Chopra to Shahid Kapoor-Vishal Bharadwaj, from Sanjay Leela Bhansali-Ranveer Singh to Ajay Devgn-Rohit Shetty, there are several actor-director duos who have always delivered hits in Bollywood. However, there's none like David Dhawan and Govinda. Whenever the filmmaker and actor have collaborated together, they have delivered their best.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Partner, Hero No. 1. Coolie No. 1, and Shola Aur Shabnam are just some of the examples. They have teamed up for about 17 movies.
However, some years ago they had a rather publicised tiff when Govind slammed the director in several interviews. Years later, they have apparently let the bygones be bygones.
Govinda's patch-up with David Dhawan
At Ramesh Taurani's Diwali party, the director and the actor were spotted chatting with each other. This took everyone by surprise. Now, Govinda has confirmed that they have both patched up and let the bygones be bygones.
While talking to Bombay Times, he said, "I am glad people still feel that we should work together. Yeh unka pyaar hai (It is their love). Our patch-up had already happened. This was our second meeting. It was a Diwali bash where we ate good food and had a great time. We don¡¯t believe in raking up the past. Why mull over it? That¡¯s not necessary. Let bygones be bygones. Filmy talk wasn¡¯t a priority. But when that happened, we only spoke about the happy memories and those were plenty."
All about Govind and David Dhawan tiff
In 2019, Govinda opened up on the tiff with Dhawan and said that while he treated the filmmaker as his own family, he didn't live up to the relationship they had built over the years.
While talking to India TV, he said, "He can ask me this question only when his son (Varun Dhawan) makes 17 films with him. I do not think his son will ever do 17 films with him, because he is, after all, David Dhawan's son. He is educated. I never realised the meaning of doing 17 films with a director. It was Sanjay Dutt who told me to give work to a fellow Punjabi (David Dhawan). I used to give work to fellow Punjabis at that time. I liked David and did many hit films with him. I did not even treat my relatives as well as I treated him. Even with my brother, who is a director, I did not do 17 films."
He also said that he had discussed the idea of 2013 film Chashme Baddoor with Dhawan, but he went on to cast Rishi Kapoor instead.
"He started the film with Rishi Kapoor. And when he was shooting the film, I called him and he said, 'Tu sun toh mein kaise film bana raha hoon.' Then I said, 'Tu mujhe kehta toh - subject bhi utha lia'".
The final nail in the coffin was when Govinda quit politics.
He asked his secretary to call David. The phone was on loudspeaker when Govinda heard the director say that he didn't want to work with the actor as he questioned a lot. He infact suggested that the actor should do small roles. Govinda was in shock after he heard this. However, he still rang him up a few times to ask for guest appearances. David never called him back.
"I think he is under somebody's influence. I do not think he is that same David Dhawan who I used to know," said the actor.
