'Leg Amputated Due To High Diabetes, Lost Work', Jodha Akbar Actor On Hardships During Pandemic
The actor had to amputate his leg because of high-stress levels. In an interview with ETimes TV, he spoke about his blood sugar shooting up beyond dangerous limits.
Diabetes is an ailment that can turn severe in no time and lead to serious medical conditions. For 50-year-old 'Jodha Akbar' and 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' actor Lokendra Singh Rajawat, neglecting diabetes came at a heavy cost.
The actor had to amputate his leg because of high-stress levels. In an interview with ETimes TV, he spoke about his blood sugar shooting up beyond dangerous limits.
"I could do nothing. I was working so well before the COVID pandemic, work started decreasing a lot and there was a certain amount of financial stress at home."
Delving deeper into his health condition, he said,
"It all began when I developed corn in my right foot and I neglected it. It became an infection that percolated into the bone marrow and in no time, had spread in my body. I developed gangrene. The only way to save me was to get the corned leg amputated till the knee."
Lokendra's surgery lasted for 5 hours at Mumbai's Bhaktivedanta Hospital, Mira Road.
Expressing regret about ignoring his health condition, he said,
"I wish I had taken care of when my diabetes began about 10 years ago. We actors often have no fixed timings when shooting and our erratic hours of lunch and work have an adverse effect on our health. Add this to the stress. All this leads to diabetes and not if you are fond of sweets. I have got financial aid through CINTAA. Actors have been calling up to know about my health and providing motivation."
The actor has worked in shows like 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' and 'Jodha Akbar', CID, Crime Patrol, among others. The actor also appeared in Ranbir Kapoor's starrer 'Jagga Jasoos' and Meezaan Jaffrey's film 'Malaal'.
Lokendra is hopeful to fit an artificial leg for which Nupur Alankar (who is currently taking care of and nursing Savita Bajaj) has gotten him a letter from a yoga healer Shambhu Saran Jha. Jha had helped Manisha Koirala to an extent in her recovery from cancer.
All his expenses of the hospital that Lokendra gets admitted to, for fitting the leg, will be taken care of, according to the letter.
However, he has to work on healing his wound before starting the process of fixing an artificial leg.
"But the wound has to heal first. The artificial leg will come in only later," Lokendra concluded. The actor is married and is the father of two kids.
