But, with addition of significant ear pain and a vesicular rash on outer part of the ear on the same side of the paralysis is called Ramsay Hunt Syndrome.
The other name for Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is Herpes Zoster Oticus, a rare and severe condition that is caused by the herpes zoster virus, which can also cause chickenpox and shingles.
Symptoms of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome
A person suffering from the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome can have the following symptoms - sudden hearing loss, vertigo and tinnitus. The tongue on the same side may also have painful vesicular lesions and hard palate. This happens because the nerves that controls all facial movements such as smiling, blinking eyes, actually originates from the facial nerve, which divides in five branches to control the forehead muscle, help close your eyes, help you smile, among others.
When the virus attacks, the facial nerves are damaged resulting in the paralysis of half of the face.
