Is the plot of Kalki 2898 AD copied from 2006 Hollywood movie titled Children on Men? A distributor has made a shocking claim about the story of Nag Ashwin directorial being similar to Oscar-nominated film.
While the makers say Kalki 2898 AD is loosely based on Mahabharat and Kalki Puran, is the Prabhas and Deepika Padukone starrer film also inspired by this Oscar-nominated Hollywood movie? Ever since the trailer of the film has been released, fans have been comparing the movie to Marvel film Thor and American sci-fi film Dune. However, one of the distributors have revealed that the film is instead a copy of 2006 Hollywood movie titled Children on Men.

According to a Deccan Chronicle report, "The plot is loosely based on the English film which was a renowned science-fiction thriller and talks about human extinction. It was nominated for three Oscars." The distributor who revealed this also said, "The film revolved in a futuristic time, in a chaotic world in which women have somehow become infertile, a former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea. Similarly, going by the trailers of Kalki, Prabhas vows to give a ride to pregnant Deepika and assures to move her to a safe zone."
What is Children of Men about?
The 2006 action-thriller movie is on the namesake book The Children of Men by PD James and stars Clive Owen, Julianne Moore, Michael Caine, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Charlie Hunnam in pivotal roles. The story of the movie is set in dystopian future in the year 2027 where humans have become infertile and society is on the brink of collapse. A former activist agrees to help transport a miraculously pregnant woman to a sanctuary at sea. As he tries to safely escort the pregnant woman to The Human Project, an organisation said to working towards saving the humanity, he faces several hurdles from the government and military. Not just the distributors, several fans also pointed out the same after the trailer of Kalki 2898 AD was released.
"Deepika seems pregnant in Kalki trailer, which is shown like a hope in the dystopian world. Are they making a silent rip off of "The children of men"????? This thing threw me a little off guard," one of them wrote. "Kalki trailer - plot looks like Mad Max + Guardians of the Galaxy + Children of Men," said another user. "Kalki feels a lot like Elysium meets Children of Men meets Lord of the Rings. Three of my favorites. Hope Kalki goes up there as well," third user pointed out.
