The authorities alerted people as two city reservoirs¡ªChembarambakkam and Puzhal, which serve as important sources of drinking water to the Chennai city¡ªwould be opened to let out surplus rainwater.
On Sunday, Haasan, who turned 67, requested his fans and ardent followers to show up for people in need.
The actor sent out a tweet in Tamil that read:

For the uninitiated, Haasan also heads the political party Makkal Needhi Maiam.
Several parts of Chennai reported extensive waterlogging on Sunday morning after the city recorded heavy overnight rains.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy rainfall will occur over Tamil Nadu on November 10-11. "Extremely heavy rain is expected to occur over #TamilNadu on 10th-11th November.
Widespread moderate rainfall is likely over Kerala, south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu during the next five days.
