Kangana Ranaut to contest Lok Sabha elections 2024: Read her statement on joining BJP to fight elections from her birthplace Mandi. Along with her Ramayan's Lord Ram, Arun Govil will also contestant elections from Meerut.
After dropping several hints about being ready to take the political plunge, it is now confirmed that Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut will contest Lok Sabha elections this year on BJP ticket. Not just her, actor Arun Govil, best known for essaying the role of Lord Ram in Ramanad Sagar's Ramayan, is also one of the candidates for the Lok Sabha election 2024 in the the political party's 5th list of 111 candidates released on March 24.

This will be an electoral debut for both Kangana and Govil. While the Queen actress will contestant elections from Mandi, Himanchal Pradesh - which is also her birthplace, Govil will contest from Meerut.

In a statement on Twitter, Kangana expressed her excitement on contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections from Mandi. "My beloved Bharat and Bhartiya Janta¡¯s own party, Bharatiya Janta party ( BJP) has always had my unconditional support, today the national leadership of BJP has announced me as their Loksabha candidate from my birth place Himachal Pradesh, Mandi (constituency) I abide by the high command¡¯s decision on contesting Loksabha polls. I feel honoured and elated to officially join the party. I look forward to be a worthy karyakarta and a reliable public servant. Thanks."
In Feb 2024, Kangana said the time was right for her to join politics.
In an interview with TV9 Bharatvarsh, she said, "I have literally fought from film sets with political parties. That doesn't keep me away, it doesn't take me a seat to do what I want to do for my country. But, if I want to get into politics, I probably think this is the right time."
Calling herself a nationalist before an actor, she added, "This country has given me so much, I feel deeply responsible to give back. I have always been more of a nationalist and that image has taken over even my very glorious acting career. I do have the awareness that I am deeply loved and appreciated."
