The Kashmir Files Controversies: Why Screenings Are Getting Halted & People Are Being Assaulted
The Kashmir Files Controversies: From the Kapil Sharma controversy to Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna, people are getting assaulted in theatres as screening of Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files have been stopped in Jammu, Shillong and other states of India.
Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files continues to be the eye of the storm. The movie, based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits that took place 32 years ago, has been embroiled in so many controversies.
Before the release, the filmmaker had claimed that Kapil Sharma refused to invite him on The Kapil Sharma Show as there was no big star in the movie. That led to #BoycottKapilSharmaShow trending on Twitter. The comedian then rubbished the claims.
Then, the Jammu court asked the makers to not depict martyred Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna in the movie.
The order came after Nirmal Khanna, wife of the Indian Air Force officer, that the film does not present facts but demand and belittles the sanctity of her late husband. For the unversed, martyr Ravi Khanna was one of the four IAF personnel who were allegedly shot dead in Srinagar on Jan 25, 1990, by a group led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik.
Now that the film has been released, a lot of chaos was witnessed at a theatre in Jammu, where apparently people were assaulted too. The screening of The Kashmir Files was then halted. Here's what's happening.
A Twitter user has shared a video from Wave Mall of Jammu where some people can be seen getting thrashed.
The caption reads, "We are here in @wavecinemas Jammu, Just now the authorities here stopped the screening of THE KASHMIR FILES People are being thrashed and assaulted! A big propaganda is running to Muzzle the voice of truth @vivekagnihotri @AnupamPKher @KhajuriaManu @DrVikasPadha Do raise".

Another Twitter user revealed that The Kashmir Files' shows were cancelled in Shillong.
Hi @vivekagnihotri. Went for a show of The Kashmir Files today at Galleria Cinema in Shillong. After making a house full with audience, the cinema informed us that they had "not received the file". Show was cancelled, and manager was heard saying the film is "controversial".

Booked show tickets for tomorrow shows in US. No problem here. Infact tickets are selling like hot cakes. Definetly in India some statewise sabotage going on. Should be reported to information and broadcasting ministry.

Vivek Agnihotri, the director of the movie, asked on Twitter as to what led to the screening being halted.
This is absolutely illegal and undemocratic. Pl don¡¯t surrender to arm twisting and political pressures. And I request the audience to demand the manager of @wavecinemas on what basis they have done it. Ask them to show the written orders from any competent authority. https://t.co/8fguh2krYM
