¡®Send Rs 500 To Aamir Khan¡¯: Laal Singh Chaddha Actor Manav Vij On People Loving The Film On OTT
Aamir Khan who suffered losses with his film Laal Singh Chaddha got appreciation with its OTT release. One of the film's actors Manav Vij has taken a dig at those people and advised them, to send 500 rupees to producers.
Aamir Khan-led Laal Singh Chaddha faced the brunt of the ongoing boycott trend in Bollywood. An adaptation of Tom Hanks¡¯ 1994 film Forrest Gump, Laal Singh managed to earn only Rs 58.73 crores in theatres. As soon as the film started streaming on Netflix, audiences switched sides to appreciate the film and apologised to the makers for not watching it in theatres.
In response to this actor, Manav Vij who played the role of a Pakistani soldier in the film has suggested people contribute to the film¡¯s losses.
Speaking to Mid-Day, Vij said, ¡°Many people also apologised to me on Twitter, saying they didn¡¯t watch Laal Singh Chaddha in theatres following the boycott trend. But they loved it when they watched it on Netflix.¡± Vij suggested that if people are so apologetic, they ¡°should have transferred Rs 500 to Aamir Khan Productions¡¯ account.¡±
As per Manav, ¡°The producers are at a loss because of your (people¡¯s) stupidity.¡± Laal Singh Chaddha was a movie that showed Aamir¡¯s character Laal, to be a man with a low IQ. During the 1999¡¯s India-Pakistan war, Laal serves and unknowingly saves the life of Mohammed Paaji (Vij) who happens to be a Pakistani soldier. The two become friends later in the movie.
Manav, who is currently out and loud promoting his recent release of spy thriller Tanaav talked about his relationship with the characters that he plays.
Tanaav is a Hindi adaptation of the popular Israeli show Fauda, starring Manav in the lead as a former counterinsurgency officer hunting a dangerous militant in Kashmir. He told Hindustan Times, ¡°I surrender to the director. I think that works for me all the time. I am surrounded by the right captains all the time. They are happy after working with me because I listen to them. I am more of a soldier than an actor.¡±
He further talked about acting and said, ¡°Sometimes, I act bad but people like it because the soul is ok, my belief is ok so I sail through it. It happens a lot of times. And I am being honest. There is no gimmick in this. At the end of the day, as an actor, I rate myself 4 out of 10. But what happens is that my upbringing is such that I believe that when you are honest towards your work, it hides your weaknesses. There have been times when I haven¡¯t liked particular scenes and when I come out of the cinema hall, people are praising those scenes only. I keep mum because what can I say?¡±
For the unversed, Laal Singh Chaddha didn¡¯t work out in theatres as an old video of Aamir had resurfaced during the film¡¯s release. A video from 2015 showed the actor speaking about the ¡°growing intolerance¡± in the country that turned into a boycott mould for this film.
