Rajkummar Rao-Bhumi Pednekar's 'Badhaai Do' Is About A Lavender Marriage; Here's What It Means!
To strike a conversation and trigger a woke conversation, we have a flood of films that revolve around same-sex marriages, romantic relationships between a straight and a transgender person, and several other permutations and combinations are being tried.
Just like sequels, Bollywood's obsession with making movies popularising India's LGBT+ community isn't new. To strike a woke conversation, we have a bevy of films that revolve around same-sex marriages, romantic relationships between a straight and a transgender person, and several other permutations and combinations that are being tried.
Currently, there has been a lot of buzz around¡ª ¡®Badhaai Do,¡¯ a film starring Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao.
The trailer has revealed a lot more than it should have. It's evident in the trailer that the story will revolve around a lesbian marrying a gay guy in small-town India.
Bollywood is not alien to the concept of Lavender marriages, but what does it mean?
The idea of opposite-sex homosexuals marrying each other is called a ¡®lavender marriage.¡¯
In the setup, a male-female enters a marriage of convenience to conceal one or both partners' socially stigmatized sexual orientation.
This is not Rajkummar Rao's first movie on an issue that remains taboo or a hush-hush topic.
Rao has been associated with films like Aligarh and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha To Aisa Laga, making him a safe bet to carry a subject as sensitive as a lavender marriage.
Responding to the trailer of the film, fans wrote:
The casteism and transphobia of the #BadhaaiDo trailer... Is it too much to expect good representation when it comes to Bollywood?

Even an attempt to make a progressive movie in India is laughable. #BadhaaiDo pic.twitter.com/Xv7K1U6kg3

"Badhaai Do" trailer is good, spotlighting socially stigmatised lavender marriage. But the trailer exposes too much, to the point where it feels like a short summary.

Ofcourse, there will be a social speech by Rajkumar Rao in the end. It's inevitable. #BadhaaiDo
ok I am really excited for Badhaai Do but wtf is that a straight pride flag??? pic.twitter.com/ccDcT3MN8f

you know what by bollywood standard the trailer for ¡®badhaai do¡¯ looks promising - interesting bold concept, nice actors, plus it¡¯s been so long since i¡¯ve been genuinely thrilled for an indian movie, hope they don¡¯t fudge it with too much *airbrushed* "realistic-ness"

I just wish Bollywood would learn to cut a trailer. Again summarized the whole damn movie! Fab actors, looks like a good fun movie, but lost half the interest already. No point making the trip to a theater when you know the story. Will wait for OTT release.#BadhaaiDo

Hope the movie ending enlighten people about the essence of marriage, not as a tool to by pass the consevative society. #BadhaaiDoTrailer
