Munawar Faruqui's Controversy
Munawar Faruqui, 32, became well-known on YouTube as a stand-up comedian and rapper. He initially gained notoriety in 2021 when he was sentenced to one month in jail on claims that remarks he made about Hindu deities at a stand-up performance had hurt religious sentiments.
Munawar was giving a performance at Indore, Madhya Pradesh's Munro Cafe in January 2021. The program was halted after Eklavya Singh Gaur, the son of BJP MLA Malini Gaur, accused him of making hurtful jokes about Hindu deities. He was nabbed mid-show by MP Police. Even though there was no proof against him, his bail request was denied, according to reports.
