Naseeruddin Shah Calls Out RRR And Pushpa For Promoting Hypermasculinity
Days after calling out The Kashmir Files and Gadar 2, Naseeruddin Shah now reveals he couldn't sit through RRR and Pushpa.
Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is known for his brilliant performances and solid opinions. By all his will, Shah jumps into several pools of controversies because he isn¡¯t someone who cares about trolling. In one such recent event, Naseeruddin was heard calling out blockbuster films Pushpa and RRR for their hypermasculinity.
Shah wonders how people enjoy such movies and he wouldn't ever want to watch something like that.
When asked about people¡¯s fascination with hypermasculinity referring to Kabir Singh, Shah said in an episode of Be A Man Yaar, ¡°Mardo ki insecurity badh rahi hai isiliye aur bhi zayda zor diya ja raha ha hypermasculinity ko. America me toh Marvel ki duniya chal rahi hai, sab superhero hai.¡±
He shares that this is happening in India as well but there¡¯s also a parallel set of audiences who are also enjoying films like A Wednesday.
Shah added, ¡°The acceptance of smaller films, those made by Anurag like Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi, Gulmohar will find its place. I'm pretty sure because I have great faith in the younger generation. Maine RRR, Pushpa dekhne ki koshish ki, mujhse dekhi nahi gayi. Maine Mani Ratnam ki film puri dekhi kyuki woh kabil filmmaker hai; unka koi agenda nahi hai.¡±
¡°Mai imagine nahi kar pata, alawa thrill k ya aapke dil k andar ki jo jasbaat jo chupe huye hai, unko feed karke kahi ek khushi ka ehsas hota ha dekhne ke baad jo aksar kayi din tak rehta hai. Main aise filmein kabhi dekhne na jau.¡±
In the show¡¯s other segment, Shah was heard saying, ¡°I don't know how many women liked RRR.¡±
It was very recently that Shah called out Gadar 2 and The Kashmir Files ¡®jingoistic¡¯.
While speaking to Free Press Journal, Naseer shared, ¡°Now the more jingoistic you are the more popular you become because this is what has been ruling this country. It¡¯s not enough to love your country but beat drums about it and you have to create imaginary enemies. What these people don¡¯t realise is that what they are doing is very harmful.¡±
¡°In fact, films like Kerala Story and Gadar 2, I haven¡¯t seen them but I know what they are about, it¡¯s disturbing that films like Kashmir Files are so massively popular whereas films made by Sudhir Mishra, Anubhav Sinha, and Hansal Mehta, who are trying to portray the truth of their times don¡¯t get seen. But these filmmakers mustn¡¯t lose heart and continue telling stories."
