10 Times Pankaj Tripathi Played Supporting Roles So Effortlessly And Stole The Limelight

Did you know Pankaj Tripathi was sick when he was called for the audition of Gangs Of Wasseypur, a film that changes his life and career? He was so ill that he refused to go for the audition. However, after Mukesh Chhabra persuaded him, he went and gave the longest audition of his life -- which lasted for eight-nine hours.

This film was the first time when he earned recognition in the industry. From here, he climbed the ladder of success quite swiftly.

This doesn't mean that Tripathi got to play lead roles from here on. He has bagged substantial supporting roles, and being the great actor that he is, he outshone in them. So much so, that he stole the limelight from the main lead.

While Rajkummar Rao did a fantastic job in his horror-comedy film, the second half was far better especially after Tripathi joins the gang in the role of Rudra Bhaiya. His dialogues like -- Sabka aadhaar link hai uske paas -- were simply hilarious and most of them were improvised by him. His comic timing is indeed unmatchable.

From Sanjay Mishra to Vicky Kaushal and Richa Chadha, all the characters in this film were distinct and very important. They made their presence felt, but Pankaj Tripathi's small but delightful role had cast a long-lasting impact on the audiences.

Many praised Kriti Sanon's performance in Mimi, but Pankaj Tripathi did an outstanding job too. Just imagine if any other actor would have essayed his role, the film wouldn't be the same. That's the magic he weaves in this one.

Did you know Pankaj Tripathi was initially offered a bigger role in those Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon starrer film? However, he chose the character of perverted Babulal, which had less screen time. Why? Because says it had "more scope to play with".

Varun Sharma AKA Chucha was indeed kickass in the film, but apart from Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh and Pulkit Samrat and other lead characters, Pankaj Tripathi's character shone in the movie. He ruled every frame he was a part of. Some even say he was the saviour of this sequel.

This film made him win a National Film Award under the category of Special Mention. Based on the electoral system in India, Tripathi essayed the role of a paramilitary officer in Newton. Yet again, he showed the range of his acting caliber in this one.

In the role of Bitti's father, Pankaj Tripathi had set an example how a feminist father looks like. Despite the pressure from society and family, he didn't let his daughter's dreams suffer. Among the cast of stellar actors like Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao and Kriti Sanon among others, Tripathi cast a strong impact with his simple yet adorable role.

8. Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl

In this film, Tripathi once again essayed the role of a progressive father. Anup (Pankaj Tripathi), Gunjan Saxena's (Janhvi Kapoor) father, was one of the main reasons that contributed to her success and the actor did a fantastic job in this one as well. With his subtle comedy and powerful dialogues, he kept the audience entertained throughout.

In a multi-starrer film that had a plethora of great actors like Abhishek Bachchan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Rajkummar Rao, Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Rohit Suresh Saraf among others, Pankaj Tripathi and his comedy were the highlights of this film.

In this story about a mother-daughter relationship, Pankaj Tripathi had a minimal role, but even in this small role, he left us all in awe of his performance. As they say, Pankaj Tripathi would sleepwalk through a film and he would still emerge a winner. That's his charm and magic.
