People Point Out Chilling Similarities Between Article 15 & Hathras Case, Scene Goes Viral
The chilling similarities between Article 15 and Hathras gang rape case have left people spellbound. This one-scene from the Anubhav Sinha directorial is going viral. The scene is so much relevant and so much close to harsh reality we live in.
When Anubhav Sinha's Article 15 had released, India witnessed protests in several parts of the nation. The film quite accurately captured the reality of caste-based crimes and division in Uttar Pradesh. It has been over a year since the movie released, and reality remains strikingly similar to what the movie showed.

What did Article 15 show?
Roughly inspired by Uttar Pradesh¡¯s Badaun rape and murder case of two girls in 2014, the film showed gang rape of two Dalit girls whose bodies are found hanging from a tree. While the preliminary autopsy reveals it was rape, one corrupt police officer prevents the release of this information and pushes the narrative of honour-killing. Turns out, caste based discrimination is source of the entire problem.
From local police to the Chief Minister, everyone was involved in hiding the truth, but cop Ayan Ranjan (played by Ayushmann) eventually brings out the truth and focuses on the importance of Article 15 of the constitution that prohibits discrimination based on caste, gender, race, religion or birthplace.
What happened in Hathras gang rape case?
A 19-year-old Dalit girl was gang raped by four upper caste men so brutally that while resisting, the girl bit her own tongue causing a deep cut, paralyzed her legs and injured her spinal cord.
The girl had reportedly told the family that the men who raped her warned her of dire consequences if she broke her silence on the incident. Her father has alleged that the accused have been forcing them not to speak. Her body was cremated at 3 AM. There's tight security outside her home and the family isn't allowed to talk to media persons.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath has suspended Superintendent of Police (SP) Hathras Vikrant Veer and four other local policemen for alleged dereliction of duty in the events that led to the brutal crime.
In the light of the incident, the discussions around caste and hate based crimes have gained pace once again. This one-scene from the Anubhav Sinha directorial is going viral. The scene is so relevant and close to the harsh reality we live in.
There were many who used to say that the movie 'Article 15 was a total exaggeration, and that Caste doesn't matter in 21st century India.

Sadly, Article 15 is replaying in real life at Hathras.
Casteism and Savarna pride is real in India, whether you believe it or not.
And you think Article 15 is just a movie!
