"Just imagine say Nawazuddin Siddiqui saying this to her. To bhi kya sab aise hi react karte? SRK¡¯s got charming privilege," one of them said. Many users called the joke crass and creepy. "He always makes cringe jokes and his fans call it wit," a comment read. Another SRK fan wrote, "I'm a huge SRK fan but damn this is too much, yes he's got that witty side of his that we enjoy and appreciate a lot but dude this is so bad so wrong. Any sane person can't tolerate this."
For the unversed, the context of the joke dates back to 2012 when Madhur Bhandarkar's film Heroine, produced by UTV, was released. Did you know Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and not Kareena Kapoor was the first choice of the film. However, soon the reports of Aish's pregnancy went viral and she had to be replaced. This made one of the biggest controversies of that time.

Talking about the same, Madhur Bhandarkar in an interview with Indian Express said, "The lead actress was required to smoke on screen¡.but even if she chose not to smoke for the camera. There are other actors smoking in the same frame entailing to passive smoking which would prove detrimental to a pregnant woman¡¯s health. The truth was hidden from us."
While Aishwarya maintained her dignified silence on this, her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan came out in support of her. He told Pinkvilla, "Everybody knew that Aishwarya was married when she signed the film. So you mean to say that actors can¡¯t get married or have children? I don¡¯t think this can be a part of any contract that you cannot get married or have children if you are working on a project."
