R Madhavan's Parents Wanted Him To Become An Engineer, Work For The Tatas
R Madhavan talks about how his parents wanted him to become an engineer or work in a bank. They were disappointed to know he didn't want that. The scene from 3 Idiots, he says, is straight out of his life.
The chocolate boy of Indian cinema, R Madhavan aka Maddy is not only a marvellous actor but he is also humble in real life. Decades later, he continues to steal the hearts of his fans who cannot stop swooning over him.
From Rang De Basanti to Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, his characters have occupied a permanent place in our hearts. Remember Farhan Qureshi from 3 Idiots? Do you the character is closer to Madhavan's real life?
"The scene from 3 Idiots is right out of my life. My dad and mom really wanted me to come back as an engineer and work for the Tatas and settle down there (Jamshedpur)."
R Madhavan's father Ranganathan Iyengar was a management executive in Tata Steel and his mother, Saroja was a manager in the Bank of India.
"But I knew early on in my life that I did not know what I was going to be, but I did know that I did not want to live a routine life living in Jamshedpur and doing the same thing for 30 years in a row which my father did with so much ease. They (his parents) were distraught, in fact, my dad was driven to tears. And I remember a line where he said, ĄŽI wonder what I have done wrong with you,'" he told Curly Tales in an interview.
Not many people know that when Madhavan was 22, he was recognized as amongst the leading NCC cadets in Maharashtra, which allowed him to make a trip with seven others as NCC cadets to England.
In his career spanning over three decades, Madhavan has given several blockbuster performances. He first gained recognition through Mani RatnamĄ¯s successful romance film Alaipayuthey. He soon made his way into the Hindi film industry and appeared in notable films like 13B, Tanu Weds Manu, Tanu Weds Manu: Returns, Vikram Vedha among others. Apart from acting, he has also worked as a writer on films and has hosted many TV shows.
He will next be seen in YRF's first OTT project called The Railway Men, which also stars Kay Kay Menon, Divyenndu Sharma and Irrfan Khan's son Babil Khan.
