'Chaudhary' Singer Mame Khan Makes India Proud, Becomes 1st Folk Artiste To Walk At Cannes 2022 Red Carpet

Rajasthani singer Mame Khan has created history by becoming the first folk artiste from India to walk the prestigious Cannes 2022 red carpet. Known for crooning for movies like Luck By Chance, No One Killed Jessica, Mirzya and Sonchiriya, Mame Khan has also featured on Coke Studio and Amit Trivedi.

Making India proud, he walked the Cannes red carpet in a traditional Rajasthani ensemble that included a vibrant pink Kurta paired with an ethnic embroidered coat. Hence, he put the diversity and uniqueness of Indian cinema on display.

Mame Khan comes from a family of master singers who have been performing since more than fifteen generations. His energy and his vocal skills are inspired by his father and tutor, late Shri Rana Khan. Mame Khan's musical journey began in a small village named Satto near Jaisalmer, and now he is an established Bollywood singer and an exceptional live performer.

"My first love was playing the dholak. I would buy all the cassettes of Zakir Hussain saab and replicate his work on the tabla or on my dholak. I first played the dholak outside of Rajasthan at the age of 12 on the occasion of Independence Day to a crowd that included Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. In 1999, after a seven month-long tour of Brussels, I returned to India without my precious dholak. I had assumed that I would return to the Belgian capital to retrieve the percussion instrument, but life had something else written for me. Soon, my father¡¯s advice to switch to singing came as a blessing in disguise. This blessing has resulted in me performing in close to 60 countries and at prestigious venues such as the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City, the John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC, and the Sydney Opera House," he told Indian Express in an interview.

His Instagram bio describes him as the Voice of Rajasthan. With songs like Kesariya Balam, Doli Re Doli, Baware, Nakhralo, Chaudhary, the singer has amassed an unmatched fandom.

He had also told the publication said, "I have always believed that if you master your own art well, you can collaborate with anyone. I, too, work with jazz musicians, Spanish flamenco artists, Romanian gypsies, opera singers. Therefore, while my music uses forms of contemporary style, the origin has always been Rajasthani folk that identifies with me."

Led by Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur as part of the official Indian delegation, which included Shekhar Kapur, Pooja Hegde, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Tamannah Bhatia, R Madhavan, AR Rahman, Prasoon Joshi, Vani Tripathi, Ricky Kej.
