Real-Life Heroes! 9 Celebrities Who Are Going All Out To Help Migrant Workers During Lockdown
Since the lockdown began, many disturbing images and reports of millions of migrants leaving for their native places on foot have emerged. Their pain is unimaginable. While the government is finally making some efforts to provide transportation facilities to them, they are still stranded in large numbers with no food, money and a roof.
While we all were sleeping, a train mowed down 16 migrant workers who fell asleep on the railway tracks as they were tired after walking several kilometers in order to reach their home.
In another heart-wrenching incident, a 12-year-old girl died after walking over 100 kilometers from Telangana to Chattisgarh's Bijapur. She was just 11 kilometers away from her hometown when she took her last breath.

Here is how celebrities are helping the migrant workers during the lockdown.
#1 Sonu Sood
Sonu Sood has sent 350 migrant workers stranded in Mumbai to their home in Karnataka. He arranged for 10 buses after personally taking permission from Maharashtra and Karnataka governments to do the same. As buses left from Thane on Monday, he came there personally to say goodbye. He says if everything goes well, he will try to send more migrant workers to Odisha, Ranchi and Bihar.
Apart from that, he is also delivering meals to 25,000 migrants living in Bhiwandi during the holy month of Ramadan.
#2 Seema Biswas
Known for her role as Phoolan Devi in Bandit Queen for which she won a National Award for Best Actress, Seema Biswas has contributed Rs 2.5 lakh to boost the relief operations being carried out by Assam House, Mumbai. She has also contributed Rs.2.5 lakh to the Assam Chief Minister¡¯s Relief Fund.
#3 Ushasie Chakraborty
Bengali actress Ushasie Chakraborty has been going out on the streets to feed the stranded migrant workers.
¡°While staying home is the right thing to do, one can¡¯t entirely forget the plight of those going hungry. So we decided to set up a community kitchen with police permission. We are a team of eight people, including the lady who cooks. Apart from me, there are six local boys, you must name them ¡ª Swaroop, Sourav, Chiranjeet, Kinjal, Arnab and Rangan ¡ª who oversee the cooking and distribute the food,¡± she told The Hindu.
#4 Rakul Preet Singh
Actress Rakul Preet Singh has been helping over 250 families living in a slum close to her home in Gurgaon. The actress and her family prepare meals and send them twice a day. She says she will keep doing it until the lockdown is over and things are back to normal.
#5 Tamannaah Bhatia
Baahubali actress Tamannaah Bhatia, in association with NGO Letsallhelp, has helped in procurement of around 50 tonnes of food products to 10 thousand people. She is helping in catering to the needs of migrant workers around Mumbai slums.
#6 Kunal Kapoor
Kunal Kapoor¡¯s crowdfunding platform Ketto.org is helping raise funds for migrant workers. Indian Women Hockey Team has also stepped up to help him. "Seeing so many people especially the daily wage workers suffer during this nation-wide lockdown due to Covid-19 pandemic, the Indian Women's Hockey Team strongly felt that we must help these people who are struggling for basics like food and sanitary products. Many of us in the Indian Team come from economically weak backgrounds and we understand the pain of struggling for food. With a goal to feed 1000 people, we decided to work with ketto. We have been able to raise over Rs 5,00,000 in just three days and the fundraiser will continue till 3 May 2020," Rani, the caption of Indian Women's Hockey Team told TOI.
#7 Shabana Azmi
Shabana Azmi, along with a few NGO partners, helped in procurement of ration, cooked meals and sanitation products for 10 lakh migrant workers and daily wage workers across 172 districts.

#8 Salman Khan
Apart from supporting the daily wage workers economically by transferring money into their accounts, Salman also provided ration facility to several migrant workers.
¡°Thank you @beingsalmankhan @tweetbeinghuman for your generous contribution towards the daily wage workers. You are always one step ahead of everybody when it comes to helping people and you have proved that yet again,¡± his friend and politician Baba Siddique had earlier tweeted this along with few pictures of a godown and trucks filled with food supplies.
#9 Irrfan Khan
Before his demise that left us all in shock, Irrfan Khan had also extended support to migrant workers. To show his support to the workers who have been worst hit by Coronavirus crisis, Irrfan wrote that he will be supporting the Friday Fast on April 10, a 12 hour fast from 6 am to 6pm. He had tagged Gram Seva Sangh in his tweet. Sacred Games actor Rajshri Deshpande also showed support and reacted to Irrfan's post.
