While the Bachchan family has maintained their silence on rumours of a rift, fans are convinced that there's no smoke without fire. Numerous incidents, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan arriving separately at the recent Ambani wedding, have fueled suspicions that something is amiss between the couple. Fans have their own theories. While some blame Jaya Bachchan, others blame Shweta Bachchan-Nanda. No one however knows the truth. The speculations went rife after Aishwarya who arrived at Ambani's wedding with daughter Aardhya was seen meeting at greeting Rekha. People think her closeness with Rekha has irked Jaya Bachchan. "Rekha been giving Jaya sleepless nights for over 3 decades," said one of the users. "This family never stopped talking to Amitabh Bachchan for his connection with Rekha though," said another user. For the unversed, Rekha and Jaya Bachchan have been at loggerheads.

Rekha was linked to many actors including Amitabh Bachchan, Jeetendra, and Vinod Khanna. Journalist and author Yasser Usman in his book about Rekha has shed light on the alleged affair between Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan. In one of her appearances on reality show Indian Idol, she had herself joked about falling for married men. When the host Jay Bhanushali asked the judges if they had ever heard of a woman so obsessed with a married man, Rekha prompted, "Mujhse puchiye na (You should ask me)".

Rekha married Delhi-based industrialist Mukesh Agarwal in March 1990. He was the owner of a kitchenware company that he started at the age of 24. It is said that Rekha and Mukesh met through common friends, which was followed by several meetings in Delhi and Mumbai. In one of these meetings, Mukesh popped up the question and Rekha was quick to say yes.

However, her marriage lasted only seven months. Their marriage was quite controversial as Mukesh died by suicide only seven months after getting married to the Bollywood diva.
While no one knows the real reason behind his suicide, it was reported that he suffered from depression, and financial setbacks made things worse. Within months of marriage, their relationship was not going strong either. They had reportedly mutually decided on parting ways. When Rekha was out on a tour, Mukesh ended his life on Oct 2, 1990. In his suicide note, he categorically mentioned that the decision was his and that he didn't blame anyone for it - not even Rekha.
