Riteish Deshmukh has found himself at the centre of the storm after his recent political speech to support his brother Dhiraj Deshmukh, a Congress candidate, ahead of Maharashtra Assembly elections of 2024. While some lauded him for indirectly slamming BJP for its politics over religion, many others slammed his speech telling him to stick to acting.

Some users have been sharing clips from his sex comedy movies after he spoke about women safety in his speech at Latur. "We can take care of your religion. They should answer what they have done for unemployment, farmers and women's safety," he had said.

Some others are slamming him mentioning religion. The actor had said, "Those who beg for votes saying your religion is in danger Actually their party is in danger. Tell them we will take care of our religion."

Others pointed out that when his father Vilasrao Deshmukh was the Chief Ministe of Maharashtra, there were bigger problems that Mahashtra dealt with then including the 26/11 terrorist attacks and Adarsh Housing Society scandal, a 31-story building constructed on prime real estate in Colaba, Bombay, that allegedly violated Indian environment ministry rules.

One of the users even pointed out how Riteish Deshmukh was on "cinematic tour" at Taj Hotel two days after 26/11 terrorist attacks. For the unversed, Riteish and filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had accompnied Vilasrao Deshmukh during the visit drawing anger of the people of the nation. It was said that RGV was working on a film based on the real life events and thus was on a recee for the Bollywood preoject. The act was labelled insensitive. At that time, Deshmukh had said that Varma's presence was just a "coincidence" and urged people to ignore the issue. Later, it led to Deshmukh's resignation.

Coordinated by the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba, 26/11 Mumbai attacks were well-coordinated terror attacks that took place on Nov 26, 2008. Ten gunmen carried out attacks at high-profile locations including Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident Hotel, Nariman House and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus railway station. After 59-hour battle that costed many hundreds of lives, these places were freed from terrorists.
Meanwhile, Riteish younger brother Dhiraj and elder brother Amit Deshmukh are contesting elections from Latur (Rural) and Latur (City) constituencies in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections and the Bollywood actor is supporting them in their campaigns.
