Sanjay Leela Bhansali Would 'Hit And Abuse' Ranbir Kapoor During The Shooting Of 'Black'
Sanjay Leela Bhansali would beat Ranbir Kapoor during the shooting of Black. Kapoor said that he used to kneel down for hours and he would hit them and abuse them.
Before making his acting debut with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 2007 film Saawariya, which tanked at the box office, Ranbir Kapoor was assisting the ace filmmaker on the sets of Rani Mukerjee and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Black.
Ranbir Kapoor has now revealed that Bhansali used to hit them and abuse them during the shoot.
"I used to be kneeling down for hours, he used to hit us, he used to abuse us," he said and added, "that only hardens you and prepares you for the world."
Not only Ranbir, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja was also an AD for Bhansali during the shoot of this film.
Ranbir Kapoor said this in defence of new-age directors at the launch event for book Raj Kapoor: The Master At Work, where Raj Kapoor's eldest son and veteran actor-director Randhir Kapoor shed light on how the commercial aspect of filmmaking these days overshadows creativity.
"Today, people prefer to work in a film which completes in 13 days rather than 300 days. Like Rahul said that Raj Kapoor started shooting for ¡®Bobby¡¯ at 6.30 in the morning and at 6.45 am, the day was over. He didn¡¯t calculate money. I remember he got the rooftops of Gulmarg painted during the shooting of ¡®Bobby¡¯ because they were not looking nice. That was personal cinema," Randhir said.
In response to this, Ranbir shared details of working with SLB. "Not saying that my generation of filmmakers are only running behind the commercial aspect¡ When I assisted Mr (Sanjay Leela) Bhansali (on ¡®Black¡¯), he used to really treat me as an assistant director." He added that he used to kneel down for hours and he would hit them and abuse them.
