'Shah Rukh Khan Has Been Victimised', Mamata Banerjee Calls Out 'Cruel And Undemocratic' BJP

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee lashed out at BJP calling it a "cruel and undemocratic" party. To justify the same, she cited "victimsation of Shah Rukh Khan".

"India loves manpower not muscle power. We are facing a cruel undemocratic party the BJP. If we are together, we will win," she said.

She said this in response to Director Mahesh Bhat, Who asked her, "The story of India is too vast and diverse to reduce it to one narrative. The story of plural, diverse and tolerant India has to be that. How are going to protect liberals from the goons of the right wing?"

She also added as quoted by NDTV, "Mahesh ji (film director Mahesh Bhatt), you have been victimised, Shah Rukh Khan has also been victimised. If we have to win, we have to fight and speak out wherever you can. You guide us and give us advice as a political party."

Her statement comes after Aryan Khan was jailed for a month, post which, the high court had said that prima facie no positive evidence was found against the accused to show that they had conspired to commit an offense.

Several celebrities including Swara Bhasker, Munawar Faruqui, Richa Chadha, Agrima Joshua, Kubra Sait and others also met Mamata Banerjee.

Raising her concern, Bhasker told Banerjee that a lot of artistes are facing resistance for telling stories. "There are many young people who have risked their careers, their livelihoods to keep the resistance alive in their own small ways."
