For the unversed, Shah Rukh Khan in a very old episode of Aap Ki Adalat had confessed that he once tried to bribe the organisers to give him the Best Actor award. In his own words, "Main ghatiya ban gaya." However, he then clarified that it didn't work as the organisers refused to accept the money he was offering.
Akshay Kumar exposed the reality of award shows
During a talk show with Anupam Kher, Akshay Kumar revealed why he never gets awards and thus exposed the award shows in India. "
They don¡¯t give me awards. The thing is, they say that if you want an award, you have to participate in our shows for half the price. I tell them to pay the full amount and give the award to someone else. There are 30-32 award nights, and everyone gets an award. How can it be that everyone is getting different awards somewhere?"
He added, "And why does it happen that the person sitting there gets the award, while someone who is absent doesn¡¯t? It¡¯s strange; no one understands this. Some people have done great work, but why didn¡¯t they show up? You, my friend, are here, so give it to him."
Furthermore, he revealed, "Actually, let me tell you the truth: when I present an award, sometimes it happens that the name has been crossed out and another name is written over it."
Many actors including Aamir Khan and Kangana Ranaut haven't been attending award shows for the same reason. Shama Sikander's bold claim about Shah Rukh Khan purchasing awards has reignited the ongoing debate about the authenticity and integrity of award shows in India.
