Swara Bhaskar has been getting mixed responses for her bold character as Sakshi Soni in Veere Di Wedding. Many love her badass avatar while others are busy judging her role. I personally loved how unapologetic she is in the film. Indiatimes had an exclusive conversation with the actress where she opened her heart out about the films and the trolls.
My mom loved the film
"My mother has watched the film, my father hasn't because he is in abroad, and nor has my brother. They will watch it in the coming week, but my mother said it was a fun film and she enjoyed it.
But a really interesting thing, an elderly gentleman told me that he asked his daughter if she talks like this, she said yes, when you are not around."
Rhea offered me Meera¡¯s role
"There is a certain trust I have in Rhea and Sonam when they offered me a film. Initially I knew Rhea as Sonam¡¯s sister but now I have high regards for her.
But when I heard the script I loved it, it was unapologetic, and something that you have not seen in the commercial films before and I though it's important that this story has to be told. Also, Rhea had initially offered me the role of Meera what Shikha is playing. And I had finished the shooting of Tanu Weds Manu Returns in 2016.
And I was like Rhea, I just finished the film jaha mai bachcha leke ghoom rahi hu poore set pe, dobara muje bachcha nahi chahiye. I liked Sakshi¡¯s role and I thought this is something I have never done before, so I was like I will do Sakshi¡¯s role, Rhea was like, are you sure, because I want Sakshi totally ripped. I thought it was challenging and I took up the role."
I was prepared to get shocking response on Self Gratification scene
"I am really happy with the response because it's the first time I am doing a character who is urban and rich. I have always played this desi characters who is very rooted and grounded, lower middle class, but they all are my favorite.
But I thought would I be able to pull off this rich person and now I think I have done it. It's always nice to hear good reviews, I am very sensitive towards bad reviews, I feel guilty when I get bad review, I feel I have done a bad job.
As far as the trolls go, that self-gratification scene is something that we have not seen in Hindi Cinema before and so I was expecting the shocking response. In fact when I was seeing the film with everyone for the first time, I could hear the shock value. On the whole, audiences gave given me positive response and that's what matters."
I get trolled everyday
"I am not paying attention to trolls because I don't even know if they are real, I feel they are paid. Also I get trolled everyday, I think some of the things people are saying is ridiculous. Like they are taking the picture of some man masturbating in the bus and merging with Sakshi¡¯s scene and are saying what's the difference.
I mean the difference is that she is in her bedroom alone in the privacy of her own house and if they don't understand what the difference between a bus and a bedroom then I don't care about it. I think as girls, we should stop caring about everything what people will say or what they think."
I am not feared to be judged
"As an actor if you're keeping scared of being judged then you will never be able to do different kind of roles. I mean I won't be able to do Anaarkali and that scene where I am wearing a underwear and talking, if I would be scared of judged.
I always feel your faith in the script has to be much higher than your fears. I trusted Rhea and Shashank (director) for this film. And there are people who judge you on anything. I mean I am even judged when I talk about current affairs around the world. So kya kar sakte hai, can't help."
My savage replies are only on Twitter and not in real
"All my savage replies are happening on twitter, I don't give savage replies in-person. On twitter you are facing so much hatred that it's easy to be savage but I think there is bit of a problem everywhere in the world and that's is just because you are an actor and they can say anything to you.
Whether it's commenting on your looks, your acting or anything. Sometimes they don't mean it in a bad way. It¡¯s just the way of their putting. I always try to look at the positive side . Like someone had told be "hay screen pe badi moti lagti hai but waise toh badi patli hai". So it's not the great way of putting the compliment but I accept the way they are saying it."
Actors are easy target for trolls
"You know, I am realizing as I am doing more work around getting more known is that the actors have to deal with so many judgments, so many unfair expectations, so many harsh words from people who really don't know us and yet they want to say it.

I think those who are Sakshi's in real life are very privileged. I am not a Sakshi in real life yet may be someday I will get to that level of swag too."
