Swara Bhasker Supports TMC's Mahua Moitra Over Her 'Meat-Eating' Goddess Remark Amid Kaali Row
Swara Bhasker has come out in support of TMC MP Mahua Moitra over her 'meat-eating' goddess remark amid Kaali poster controversy.
Trinamool Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra's remarks on Goddess Kaali has created a huge political controversy after she expressed that as an individual she imagines Goddess Kaali as a meat-eating and alcohol-accepting goddess. She also said that every individual has his or her own unique method of worshipping the deities.
The politician's comments came amid massive uproar upon the release of the controversial poster of a documentary film titled Kaali directed by Leena Manimekalai on Twitter.
Referring to the latest Kaali poster Mahua Moitra said, "For me, Goddess Kali is a meat-eating and alcohol-accepting goddess. And if you go to Tarapith, you will see sadhus smoking. That is the version of Kali people worship. I, within Hinduism, being a Kali worshiper, have the right to imagine Kali in that way; that is my freedom."
The controversy erupted after filmmaker Leena Manimekalai shared the Kaali poster on Twitter. The poster shows a woman dressed as goddess Kaali smoking a cigarette.
Many have slammed Mahua Moitra for her latest comments including BJP¡¯s West Bengal president Sukanta Majumdar, who has demanded strict action against the MP from TMC for allegedly insulting Goddess Kaali.
However, Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar, who dares to speak her mind no matter the consequences, has come out in support of MP Mahua Moitra. The actress took to Twitter to hail the MP and wrote, "Mahua Moitra is awesome. More power to her voice."

On the other hand, BJP's Ram Kadam has demanded a lifetime ban on film Kaali. He said that the poster is just a gimmick to make money at the cost of hurting religious sentiments. Moreover, a complaint against Mahua Moitra has been filed in her constituency.
Even TMC's Sukhendu Shekhar Roy said that party is not backing Mahua Moitra's remark as it did not instruct her to say those things. He said TMC has no relation to what she said.
Mahua Moitra Unfollows TMC Twitter Handle Meanwhile, MP Mahua Moitra unfollowed her party on Twitter after TMC distanced itself from her remarks and condemned it as BJP wondered if it was the official stand of West Bengal's ruling party to insult Hindu gods and goddesses.
