The Man With Therapeutic Voice, Why Lucky Ali Decided To Quit Bollywood & What He Is Up to Now

The unique husky and soulful voice has enthralled us for years. Even today, when we listen to him humming his songs, we smile; our hearts smile too. His recent impromptu rendition of O Sonam made him top trend on Twitter. That's the power of Lucky Ali, one of the most loved musicians of India who has impacted generations with his melodious voice.
But where Lucky Ali is now and what is he up to?
Ali is not only a singer. He was an actor too. The son of Bollywood actor, Mehmood Ali and Mahelaka, the sister of legendry Indian actress Meena Kumari, and nephew of Bollywood actress and dancer Minoo Mumtaz, made his debut in 1962 film Chote Nawab, directed by his father, as a child artiste.
But his journey wasn't easy.
Ali had done several odd jobs too. He has worked in an oil ring in Pondicherry. Not only that, he ran a carpet cleaning business with friend Aslam who later wrote lyrics to his songs. He never refers to this phase of his life as a struggle. He rather calls it an enriching experience.
He has featured in movies like Yeh Hain Zindagi (1977), Hamare Tumhare (1979) and Trikaal (1985). Who doesn't remember him in Kaante, in which he starred alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt, Kumar Gaurav and Suniel Shetty.
Not only, he acted in Sur-The Melody of Life, but he earned accolades for his music too. It remains to be one of the most popular albums of all time. Apart from his albums like Sunoh, Sifar, Aks and Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai among others, he has sung for Bollywood movies like Kaho Naa... Pyaar Hai, Anjaana Anjaani and Tamasha among others.
Why did he leave Bollywood? Because "iss jagah mein badtameezi bohot hai".
"Bollywood has changed. The movies which are being made these days are lacking the inspiration and I think there is ¡®nothing¡¯ to learn to from such movies," he had said in an interview in 2017.
"This generation movies are leaving a bad impact on the society. People are getting violent as they are inspired with what is being showcased in the movies. I believe less patience and more greediness is being promoted through the movies", he added and said that there's a lot of disrespect in Bollywood and that he is glad he is out of it.
Where is Lucky Ali now and what is he doing?
Ali manages his farm near Bengaluru himself and pursues farming simultaneously. He is also the co-founder of Tribe Nation, an online marketplace for farm-grown products. Powered by farmers, Tribe Nation delivers groceries and fresh farm-grown products from local farmers, to customers via a convenient app model, while eliminating inconsistency in prices.
Now, he calls himself a farmer
"I'm a farmer and I take that very seriously. Farming is ann (food) for me." he told DNA.
Why is Lucky Ali often spotted in Goa?
Ali is often seen in Goa, a place that reminds him of his childhood. He loves spending time on beaches, especially Calangute. It reminds him of his childhood when he used visit along with his family.
He does live shows too, only because he loves travelling and meeting new people.
Not only beaches, he loves mountains too. Travelling bug has bit him and that is one of the reasons why he prefers live shows. He loves travelling to new places and meeting new people. He loves how energetic live concerts are. Life is all about new experiences after all. As his song says, "Jaane Kya Dhundhta Hai Yeh Mera Dil, Tujhko Kya Chaiye Zindagi". Ali is living life to the fullest.
Music is therapeutic to him. His musical journey began at the age of 13 when his second mother gifted him a guitar, and so, a star was born.
