Vir Das Reacts To The Criticism Of His Joke On The Transgender Community, Says He Messed Up
Vir Das has been largely lashed for his joke on transgender and he has now released a statement where he admits of messing it up.
Vir Das is not only known for his acting
skills but also for outstanding satirical comedy on relevant topics. He often talks about burning topics but on a lighter note. However, this time he got it a little wrong
and he even admitted to it.
Vir Das has been largely lashed at for his joke on transgendesr and he has now released a statement where he admits that he messed up.
The joke is a part of the latest episode of #TenOnTen Tribalism & Cancel Culture vs Comedy, which is now streaming on YouTube. Earlier screenwriter Gazal Dhaliwal and designer Shinde expressed their disappointment in Vir.
The actor finally reacted on all the criticism that he has been facing and wrote a long statement on the same,
¡°I did a joke on the new ten on ten episode that my friends in the Trans community felt hurt by. I see why. My intent in the moment, was to say Trans people have courage the Govt never ever could and it was set up wrong and uninformed. I messed up. It had the opposite effect and trivialized your struggle. Articulating my intent effectively is my responsibility, not yours¡±.

He even said that what he did cannot be justified, ¡°No buts. Sometimes (a lot of) people are upset because the joke really worked, sometimes because the joke doesn¡¯t. My audience understands comedy, they can take a joke. So when they talk to me, I listen,¡±
Replying to one of his fan¡¯s tweet, he apologised and said, ¡°You¡¯re correct about the joke, and I¡¯m so sorry it made you feel hurt. I¡¯m going to put a statement out, but waiting till everyone calms down so they know it¡¯s thought out and genuine. If you know my work, you know the intent is never ever to hurt. Give it a minute and I will definitely respond¡±.
Well, we hope his apology gets accepted.
