Hindu Janajagruthi Samiti (HJS) filed complaint against Vir Das
The complaint, for the unversed, was filed on Monday, claiming that he had earlier made derogatory statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, women and India at John F Kennedy Centre in Washington DC in America and denigrated the nation. The Hindu organisation sought cancellation of his show for hurting religious sentiments.
"Hey folks. Due to unavoidable circumstances we are pushing the Bengaluru show. New details and dates soon. Sorry for the inconvenience," Vir Das wrote on Instagram.
In the caption, he talked about the refunds of tickets and said, "See you soon Bengaluru. BMS will issue refunds and you will have the option to transfer them to the new date."
Fans are quite upset with what has happened.
"And then they say why comedians complain about India in foreign land !!! Arrey yahaan karne toh do standup yahin sun lo saari complaints", a user wrote in the comments.
Another one said, "You can perform publicly cuz someone somewhere has a problem? Come perform on my roof top. They can't stop a private gathering. I Can squeeze in 100 people. You can record it and publish it publicly. It will send a message that there are many who support you too. Would be the perfect and much needed timely response to such undemocratic unfair practices by authorities . The revenue part I can't handle. You're welcome to sell tickets and have your team manage the logistics. Venue is free. My solemn strength of support is also free."
"This is just sad. A country whose people cannot take the truth and get offended on statements of crime in the country and yet do not get offended by the actual crimes being committed is bound to doom," read another comment.
In the complaint, spokesperson of Hindu Janajagruti Samit, Mohan Gowda cited Vir Das' 'I come from two Indias' monologue delivered in 2021 and said, "In this background, it is not right to allow such a controversial person to hold such a program in a communally sensitive area like Bangalore. When Karnataka is already facing many law and order problems due to communal incidents, such event which could vitiate the law and order, should not be allowed. We demand that this program should be canceled immediately."
