Are influencers cast in films only because they are popular has a massive social media fan following that ensures a good footfall to theatres? Well, content creator Viraj Ghelani thinks so. He once took a savage revenge against Dharma Productions, leaving the Karan Johar's production house scrambling for cover. So much so, that they called him and asked him to stop. Here's what happened.
Viraj Ghelani's savage revenge on Dharma Productions
In his latest appearance on the podcast The Having Said That Show, the content creator who has 1.2 million followers on Instagram, recalled his experience of working in Vicky Kaushal's Govinda Naam Mera, a thriller comedy directed by Shashank Khaitan which also starred Bhumi Pednekar and Kiara Advani among others. Despite working in the film, Ghelani was not invited for the trailer launch event.
Dharma Productions called him to 'stop'
Mighty upset with this, he made a small video asking his fans on Instagram to bombard the comments section with "Here for Viraj". Given the power of social media and his 1.2 million followers, soon after the trailer was released, there were about 1250-2000 comments just saying 'Here for Viraj'. When Dharma Productions noticed this, he got a call from them saying, "Please isko stop kara (Please make this stop)". In response, the influencer said, "F**k, do not mess with Gujaratis."
For the uninitiated, Viraj Ghelani essayed the role of Baldev in the film. His characters was Bhumi Pednekar's character's boyfriend. Govinda Naam Mera was released directly on Disney+ Hotstar. When asked why he wasn't invited to the trailer launch event, he said, "I feel they didn¡¯t take me to any trailer launch or all these things because like 'Isko kyu leke jayenge (Why would we take him)?'". Viraj was also seen in Shah Rukh Khan's Jawan, which he now says was his worst experience ever.
