According to Sacnilk, Chhaava earned Rs 18.5 crore on Day 12 (February 25). Though this is a very slight growth from its previous day's collection (Rs 18 crore), the period drama has grossed a domestic net of Rs 363.25 crore. What¡¯s the new controversy around Chhaava?
Descendants of Maratha warriors Ganoji and Kanhoji Shirke have objected to their portrayal in the movie Chhaava, claiming it inaccurately depicts them as betrayers of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, leading to his capture by Aurangzeb. They are considering a Rs 100 crore defamation lawsuit against the filmmakers.
Laxmikant Raje Shirke, a descendant, has taken legal action, accusing the film of damaging his family's reputation. In response, director Laxman Utekar apologized, stating the film didn't intentionally target the Shirke family, as it only mentioned their first names without revealing surnames or village details. He clarified that there was no intent to offend.
An adaptation of the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant, this AR Rahman musical is produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films. Chhaava also stars Diana Penty, Neil Bhoopalam, Ashutosh Rana and Divya Dutta in key roles. Cinematographed by Saurabh Goswami, the thriller is edited by Manish Pradhan.
