Netflix has announced the cinematic adaptation of Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Choudhury¡¯s popular book ¡®Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer¡¯. The web show is the streaming giant¡¯s first confirmed release of 2025. A first-of-its-kind prison drama, Black Warrant marks Vikramaditya Motwane¡¯s return to Netflix following the mega success of Sacred Games and CTRL.

While it is already known that Zahan Kapoor, the grandson of Shashi Kapoor and son of Kunal Kapoor will be headlining this project in the role of Sunil Gupta, we have grabbed some more scoop. Indiatimes has exclusively learnt that Zahan will be joined by Tota Roy Choudhury (Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani), Rahul Bhat (Kennedy), Anurag Thakur (Vedaa) and Paramvir Singh Cheema (Chamak) in this thrilling saga.

Presented by Applause Entertainment, an Andolan Production in association with Confluence Media, Black Warrant is set in the 1980s. It is a dramatized retelling of specific real events narrated through the eyes of Sunil Gupta, a timid novice jailer at Tihar Jail, as he faces the harsh truths, prominent cases, and complex power struggles within Tihar's confines.
Vikramaditya Motwane in an official statement said, "Black Warrant is a book that is raw, intense, and authentic and immediately demands to be brought to life. Collaborating with Netflix, Applause Entertainment, and Confluence has been incredible, and I¡¯m grateful to have had partners who have supported me and the team in telling this story the way it deserves to be told."
