Netflix India recently shared new stills from the upcoming season and that has created a quite a stir on the internet. Going by the photos, looks like we'll have many new prospects and some veterans gracing the new season.
If you stuffed your faces with junk food while binge-watching Love Is Blind and Too Hot To Handle, then this series called ¡®Indian Matchmaking¡¯ will kill your appetite and make your skin crawl! Okay, that might be a bit of a stretch but like they say the truth is always bitter and this show brings out the harsh realities of the Indian wedding scene.
Going by the outrage and the frenzy that Indian Matchmaking has created online, one thing¡¯s for sure - Everyone is hooked, for better or for worse.
Before we proceed further consider this as a disclaimer for spoilers. How can you discuss the show without the gory details, right? In case, you are yet to watch the show, then step back and return once you are through.
For the unversed, the OG matchmaker Sima aunty has been declared as the next ¡®It girl¡¯ of the web-series circuit. Her formidable style has caught my fancy so much that I am contemplating that I should start introducing myself as - Hello, I am Bhavya Sadhwani from New Delhi, now that the pandemic is behind us(almost)!
In case you are one of those, who believe in following up with all the dope religiously once you finish watching a show, here¡¯s the tea about the show, cast and what happened after the show concluded. Scroll!
1. Slim, Trim and Educated - This is not just the name of the episode but a common requirement for many mothers who are seeking alliances for their Raja Betas. Oh, and the girl needs to be ¡®flexible¡¯ too.
2. Sima Aunty constantly reiterates that adjustment and compromise is the formula behind a perfect alliance. In fact, she also issues a constant disclaimer - ¡°Ultimately, my efforts are meaningless if the stars are not aligned¡±
3. Looks hold precedence over substance. Even in the 21st century. The ideal person has to be fair, tall and of a certain caste. Ahem!
4. Basically, if you don¡¯t agree with your elders and revolt against a match then you need to go to a life coach to sort your issues out!
5. Call me cynical but Nadia seems too good to be true, right? I mean itna sweet? Also, she wants to get married because all her friends are married. Seriously? What¡¯s more, it took her no time to complain to Sima aunty when Vinay stood her up for a date. I know, a flaky person can be very irritating but deal with it on your own, girl.
6. Interestingly, Vinay who bailed on her has come forward to explain his side of the story now that the show is out. He claims to have been ghosted by Nadia instead of him doing the bad deed.
Happy to share what really happened Btwn Nadia and I on #IndianMatchmaking Did I make mistakes? Yes. Did i own it? Yes. Did I ditch her twice. HELL NO!! And i got the receipts to prove i was ghosted and that last dinner never existed..

I battled back and forth about showing my truth but just decided in the spirit of educating and learning in 2020 to post how I felt about #indianmatchmaking with Nadia.

I am fine with any reactions but if there is¡ https://t.co/fXnwqGcBpa
7. Nadia¡¯s date with Guyanese guy Ravi Guru came off as a very thanda meeting in which the dude looked completely disinterested. However, Guru has also come forward to clear his stance:
8. They say third time¡¯s the charm right? Nadia¡¯s meeting with lawyer Shekhar goes really well and that rain shot of them walking under an umbrella is what romantic dreams are made of.
9. The old adage that good things don¡¯t last long, holds true for Nadia and Shekhar. As of this moment, the two have gone cold turkey on each other. They don¡¯t even follow each other on social media.
10. In a recent interview with The Times, Nadia said, ¡°Being off-camera definitely changed the dynamic between myself and the matches that I had continued talking to, and obviously, the change was not positive. But it helped me learn more about myself and what I¡¯m looking for in a future partner.¡±
11. Aparna Shewakramani is a hot shot Houston lawyer with a stellar career but she is termed as too negative for being opinionated. Okay, then!
12. She¡¯s tagged as a prissy woman for not liking every guy that she meets. Oh and she needs to mend her ways because she is 34 and that¡¯s not a marriageable age, right?
13. After a handful of failed dates, Aparna vibes with Jay, a counter-top expert and budding entrepreneur. She confessed to having a great time with him and that she doesn¡¯t ¡®hate him¡¯ which is almost like a love confession, coming from her.
14. As of this very moment, it¡¯s unclear if this duo is together or not. While there¡¯s no bad blood between the two, they do follow each other on Insta and interact every now and then.
15. Before I forget, Aparna rejecting alliances makes her ¡®negative¡¯ but Pradhyuman and Akshay rejecting 150-200 and 70-80 matches respectively is being called ¡®unsure¡¯. *Slow Claps*
16. A massive walk-in closet, photos of himself on the door handles and hardcore chef who loves precision and perfection, Pradhyuman is the modern day Romeo who is in no rush to find his Juliet.
17. He meets a sweet girl from Jalgaon who isn¡¯t his type. After saying no to over 150 girls, our man finally bonds with Rushali who is Sima Aunty¡¯s relative and a model by profession. The meeting is successful as the duo goes horseback riding and romance each other during the date. Just when you think that shaadi pakki, bam! At present, Pradhyuman's quest for a suitable bride hasn't come to an end. According to LA Times, he is still looking for the 'right one'. On his break up with Rushali, he said, ¡°We had different paths in life and we respected that and moved ahead. I¡¯m still looking for the right one.¡±
The silver lining is that this couple still keeps in touch on social media.
18. Sima aunty said on the show that Kundali matching and astrology is like an insurance to a successful marriage. Acha! So, why so many divorces in India then?
19. Meet Vyasar, the friendly college counselor from Austin. He¡¯s probably one of the most genuine people on the show. Easy going and happy-go-lucky fella who makes everyone laugh. He brightens up the room with his personality and kindness. However, our man doesn¡¯t have the best luck when it comes to meeting women.
20. He doesn't even flinch once on the age-gap with Manisha but it doesn¡¯t work out with her because of difference of opinions. Enter Rashi, who seemed like a good match but the makers had to do the worst thing by not showing us the conclusion. Vyasar, who has childhood baggage in reference to his father, was to share this with his potential bride-to-be but we never got to witness that. Thanks Netflix for the cliffhanger!
21. Vyasar has been active on Twitter but there has been no direct word from the man. However, in an interview to The Times he said that he is single and it's no one's fault as matchmaking is tough. Can't help but love this endearing chap!
22. Episode 6 introduced Delhi girl Ankita Bansal who is a young entrepreneur running her own denim brand called There!, and is a smart girl who believes in balancing her personal and professional life.
23. Like every other girl, she is tired of meeting douchebags and gives in to the idea of an arranged marriage. Much to everyone¡¯s disappointment, Sima¡¯s Delhi associate Geeta (who is way more regressive than Sima herself) withholds information from her. The fact that the boy was divorced wasn¡¯t a problem but the way it was kept from Ankita was definitely an issue. When Ankita brought it up with Sima, she is directed towards a life coach to resolve her underlying insecurities. WTH!
24. Cut to Akshay, the most ridiculous cast member of all. A 25-year-old man child, Akshay¡¯s plot was infuriating on so many levels. A typical 'mamma's boy' Akshay said "My mom is literally what I want to be looking at in a wife".
This very line can make women run in the opposite direction, screaming on top of their voices. In fact, he went on to say that he wants a wife that takes care of the kids and household chores. Koi isko dobara school bhejo yaar!
25. Akshay¡¯s mum constantly cribbing about how her son¡¯s impending marriage is affecting her health made me barf! Her need for a flexible bahu was also very outrageous. The internet found Akshay¡¯s mum the villain of the series instead of Aparna. That says a lot, doesn¡¯t it?

26. After much coaxing and convincing from his parents and Sima aunty, Akshay finally meets Radhika, a girl from Udaipur who fulfills all the criteria. Their meeting and phone calls were super awkward and looked hopeless to say the least.
However, after crossing all the hurdles, this is the only couple who got their Roka done, much to the audience's horror! There¡¯s a blatant showing-off of all the jewelry and heavy clothes that Akshay¡¯s mum bestows upon her choti bahu.
27. Surprisingly, turns out it didn¡¯t work out after the show! The two called it off and didn¡¯t take the plunge. Jaa Radhika jaa, jee le apni zindagi!
28. After all this hoopla, it¡¯s safe to say that NONE OF THE MATCHES WORKED!
29. Indian matchmaking is a sham which will continue to exist as the society cannot make do without it.
30. Last but not the least, it sure is a lucrative business idea as Sima aunty¡¯s approximate earnings per client is estimated to be anywhere from 2000 to 5000 dollars(Rs 1.50 to 3.75 lac!)
