The couple, who began dating in 2017, had remained largely private about their relationship. In 2019, Johnson was seen wearing a large emerald ring, which sparked engagement speculation.

Reports in March 2024 claimed the pair had actually been engaged for six years, but had no immediate plans to tie the knot. While earlier splits were brief, this time the separation is being described as final.

Beyond wedding delays, the couple reportedly disagreed on having children. Chris Martin, who shares two kids with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow, is said to be content with his current family setup.
