Jeethu Joseph And Mohanlal's Drishyam To Be Remade In Hollywood
Drishyam's Hollywood remake is all set to be made. After being remade in various languages, now Jeetu Joseph's Malayalam crime-thriller which starred Mohanlal will be remade in English. The Hindi version starred Ajay Devgn and Tabu in lead roles.
After being remade in various languages, now Jeetu Joseph's Drishyam is all set to get a Hollywood remake. The original 2013 film that starred Mohanlal, Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil has already been remade in four Indian languages. Now, an English version is also in the works.
Drishyam's English Remake
According to a Variety report, Panorama, the producer of the Hindi version for Viacom18 Motion Pictures, has secured the global remake rights for Drishyam 1 and 2 from the original producers, Aashirvad Cinemas.
The publication quoted Kumar Mangat Pathak, who is Panorama's chairman and MD, as saying, "Drishyam's clever narrative has a universal appeal and we are keen to celebrate this story with audiences worldwide. After Korea and Hollywood, our mission is to produce Drishyam in 10 countries in the next three to five years."
Mike Karz and Bill Bindley, co-founders of Gulfstream, have previously brought to the screen the romantic comedy Blended, featuring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, as well as the workplace comedy Upgraded. In a joint statement, they said, "The film is a timeless thriller that has entranced audiences across the globe. We can¡¯t wait to bring the movie to fans here in the US."
Drishyam's remakes
The crime thriller was first remade in Kannada in 2014. This one starred Ravichandran, Navya Nair, Swaroopini Narayan and Unnathi among others. In 2015, the film was remade in Hindi and featured Ajay Devgn and Tabu in the lead roles. Both films were super hit. In the same year, Tamil version Papanasam starring Kamal Haasan, Gautami, Nivetha Thomas and Esther Anil was released.
It was also remade in Sinhala language as Dharmayuddhaya (2017) and in Chinese as Sheep Without a Shepherd (2019). The Indonesian remake was announced in September 2021, making it the first Indian film to be remade in Indonesian. The Korean remake was announced in May 2023.
