'I'm so happy to be with you': Matthew Perry's mother shares his final words, says he knew his death was 'inevitable'
Mattew Perry's mother, Suzanne Morrison, reflected on their final moments together in an upcoming interview. In a preview clip, she shares her belief that Matthew sensed his fate, recalling a poignant conversation where he expressed his love and happiness to be with her before his tragic death.
It's hard to believe that it's been a year since the cherished Friends star Matthew Perry left us on October 28th. While time has raced on for many, those who loved him feel as if it has come to a standstill. In a heartfelt interview scheduled to air on the anniversary of his passing, Matthew Perry's mother shares her belief that he had a sense of his own fate.
Suzanne Morrison opened up about the tender moments she shared with her son, Matthew Perry, before his death.
A clip from the interview with Today, previewed on NBC Morning News on Friday, reveals her thoughts on the weight of the situation, noting that there was a sense of inevitability about what was to come.
Alongside her husband and Perry's stepfather, Keith Morrison, Suzanne reminisced about their final conversation.
"Just before he died when he was showing me one of his new houses," she recalled, "He came up to me and said, 'I love you so much, and I'm so happy to be with you now. And I'm so...It was almost as though it was a premonition or something. I didn't think about it at the time, but I thought, 'How long has it been since we've had a conversation like that?' It's been years."
She reflected on how Matthew seemed to sense what was ahead. "There was an inevitability to what was going to happen next to him, and he felt it very strongly."
Matthew Perry's death: The cause and the aftermath
Matthew Perry, beloved for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, had passed away last year at the age of 54.
He was discovered unconscious in the bathtub of his Los Angeles home, with ketamine's acute effects cited as the cause of his death.
In connection with his passing, five individuals have been charged related to the ketamine supply given to Perry.
This group includes a live-in assistant, two doctors, and a woman referred to as the "Ketamine Queen."
U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada stated that these defendants are part of a "broad underground criminal network" that provided ketamine to Perry and others.
He emphasised that the suspects "took advantage of Mr. Perry's addiction issues to enrich themselves."
Earlier this month, Mark Chavez, one of the doctors implicated in the case, pleaded guilty to the federal charge of conspiracy to distribute ketamine.
