Mattew Perry's funeral song brought tears to everyone's eyes
Peter Gabriel's 1986 single Don't Give Up was played at the most loved actor's funeral and the song brought tears in everyone's eyes. Reportedly, there wasn't single dry eye as the lyrics of the song "Don't give up, 'Cause you have friends, Don't give up, You're not the only one, Don't give up, No reason to be ashamed, Don't give up, You still have us" left everyone emotional.
It was the song that he would write in his books.
In November 2022 in an interview, he said, "Listen to this song when you get home. I don't know if you've heard it as it was a long time ago but it's beautiful. They are saying 'Don't give up.' I mean, come on, how am I not going to like that? The music video was just them hugging each other and the camera just went around until the song ended. It was so cool and I loved that. When I sign [my] book, I always put 'Don't give up' there, because you shouldn't give up."
Matthew Perry Foundation
Following his death, an NGO called Matthew Perry Foundation was established to help addicts recover. Having struggled with substance abuse including alcohol addiction, Perry was an advocate of helping people with their addiction.
He had once said, "When I die, I don¡¯t want Friends to be the first thing that¡¯s mentioned. I want helping others to be the first thing that¡¯s mentioned and I¡¯m going to live the rest of my life proving that. Addiction is far too powerful for anyone to defeat alone. But together, one day at a time, we can beat it down.
In his book, he said that he spent about USD 7 million in 15 rehabs to get rid of his addiction.
