Even the cast of the film was bowled over after listening to the end of the movie. "It blew my hair back," said Emily Blunt adding, "I couldn¡¯t talk to Chris after it. My mouth wasn¡¯t working."
What did the end show?
To give you a recap, the entire movie shows glimpses of conversation between J. Robert Oppenheimer (Cillian Murphy) and Albert Einstein (Tom Conti) in 1947, two years after the Trinity blast and bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We couldn't hear the conversation until the end. However, throughout the film Lewis Strauss (Robert Downey Jr) thinks they are talking about him.
Einstein is telling Robert how he is hailed for discovering the theory of relativity that helped build the world of quantum physics. However, he is somewhere still stuck in the past and isn't able to embrace it. It's now time for Oppenheimer to go through the same. He tells him though he will be showered with awards but they aren't going to be his but others.

This is when Oppenheimer reminds Einstein of an earlier conversation about the consequences of developing an atomic bomb and how it would lead to a chain reaction that would ultimately destroy the entire world. "what of it," asks Einstein. "I believe we did," says Oppenheimer before the screen shows modern-day nuclear missiles, explosions, and devastation across the Earth's surface.

Oppenheimer was so masterfully done, after it ended we left the theater speechless, still taking it all in. This scene in particular and the ending were devastating, the chain reaction that could destroy the world was not just a physical one, but the start of a nuclear world war https://t.co/jaerS1lzLq

The ending instantly reminds us of what's happening in Russia and Ukraine. When asked about the ending, Nolan in an interview said that he was hoping to start a conversation with his film to leave people in thoughts about the moral and existential implications of scientific discovery and its potential for both creation as well as destruction. "It¡¯s the response I¡¯d hoped for in terms of the strength of the reaction. That specificity certainly wasn¡¯t my intention," he told Vulture.
