Top Iranian Actor Shares Picture Without Hijab In Support Of Anti-Government Protests

In response to ongoing demonstrations against the nation's strict dress code, prominent Iranian actor Taraneh Alidoosti shared a selfie of herself on Thursday sans her headscarf, according to the news agency AFP.
Alidoosti appears to be holding a sign that reads "Jin. Jiyan. Azadi." (Woman. Life. Freedom. ), which the AFP described as the protestors' rallying cry, in a photo posted to Instagram.

One of the few actors living in Tehran who has expressed support for the protests is the 38-year-old Alidoosti, best known even outside her country for her work in the 2016 Oscar-winning film "The Salesman," as per BBC.
"I have inherited this courage from the women of my land, who for years have been living their lives every day with resistance and equality, and ending with the dream of freedom," she wrote.
"I will stay, I will quit [working], I will stand with the families of the prisoners and murdered and demand their rights. I will fight for my home. I will pay whatever it takes to stand for my right, and most importantly: I believe in what we are building together today," she added.
Alidoosti has worked on numerous award-winning films, including "About Elly" and "Leila's Brothers," the latter of which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year.
Alidoosti has time and again collaborated with Asghar Farhadi, the director who won an Oscar for his work.
The actress dispelled rumors that she had an international passport or residency by posting on Instagram, where she has over 8 million followers, that she would stay in Iran at "any price."
Following the death of a 22-year-old woman Mahsa Amini, who was allegedly killed by the merciless morality police of the nation, riots broke out in Iran a few weeks ago.

According to human rights activists in Iran, Mahsa Ahmadi's death provoked protests that resulted in at least 328 deaths and 14,825 arrests.
However, according to Iranian state television, no one has been killed by security forces.

Numerous actors, athletes, and well-known figures supported the ongoing protests. Iranian athletes Sardar Azmoun and Golshifteh Farahani condemned the government's handling of the protests and offered their support to the dissidents.
